Two best friends spy/stalk a woman while constantly lying about who they are. Naturally she falls in love with both of them. It's the most romantic story ever told.

A pinnacle of modern film-making; intelligent and thought-provoking; it raises many questions but answers none: Why is there a British guy working for the CIA? Why are they in LA? How could anyone possibly find Reese Witherspoon that attractive? Could a plot be anymore predictable? How much more drab could you possibly make a main character? If the Secret Service is really this inept and inefficient, is it really any wonder that 9/11 was allowed to occur?

Pretty much what I expected from the vowel-less director - As long as he's in douchy-bromance territory the good/bad jokes ratio is bearable, but anything involving Witherspoon's "rejected Sex & City fan-script in a blond wig" is gutwrenchingly bad... Still: The paintball-scene makes up for some.

What ought to have been stupid fun turns out, stupidly, to be not much fun at all. Here's why: There's too little Hardy-Pine banter and too much Witherspoon dancing and eyerolling. And way too much of her "funny" girlfriend. An unlikeable mess.

That this is McG's best film to date says infinitely more about the rest of his filmography than about this film. The little enjoyment derivable from this is from the occasional chemistry between the leads (mostly Hardy/Pine, Witherspoon is flat as usual) and the slight coolness it manages to muster up in its action sequence payoff. Terrible story, way too slick execution, ridiculously named director. Hey Hollywood, stop giving work to someone who goes by the name "McG" professionally.

A subpar buddy-cop flick, that finds McG back in his 'Charlie's Angels' world of the overly stylish, beautiful and stupid. The script, obviously written by 13-year olds, is particularly awful: Witherspoon's friend who's like 'Sex, sex, but family values', Hardy who's all 'family values' and Kirk who's 'Fun, bromance, sex, aww fuckit family values'. It could've worked (and actually does in one brilliant scene featuring paintball guns and children), if it had stuck to spy vs. spy fun. But no.

Another helping of inane Hollywood crap, boasting a particularly awful script and a weak performance from Reese Witherspoon, which makes the premise (two spies battling viciously over her) fairly hard to swallow. Tom Hardy is always good, and he and Chris Pine have some solid byplay, but Pine's character is such a bastard, the film wastes Til Schweiger and Angela Bassett so totally, and Chelsea Handler is so damned annoying, that it's a chore to sit through (and why the anti-British sentiment?).

I guess this was supposed to be a spy movie for the female population that thinks "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Legally Blonde" are classic comedies. Believe me, those people are out there. I'm going to give Hardy a little forgiveness for being involved here, he's still my boy.

Two men using CIA surveillance equipment to stalk a woman in order to get laid. I have just described to you the plot of this film, so the only thing worthy of asking is who thought this would be such a great idea. It's excruciating enough to describe the poor writing, contrived acting or the fact that the action scenes and bad guys were shoehorned in to make it look like the two main characters were actually spies, which sadly ended up being a rather inadequate subplot.

It is very hard not to ignore the idiotic premise, which has been told a trillion times before. But as long as you do not take it for more than it is, it's 90 minutes of decent action/comedy entertainment. Hardy and Pine has a great bromance chemistry between them and it is nice to see that there are some hopes for up and coming leading men in Hollywood.

Of all the pitiful elements of this move, I don't know which was worse, the writing or the direction. It was like they shot it in 3 days. It had a couple of sparks but not enough to warrant paying to see it. The paintball scene was probably the best, but not the groin shot they used in the preview meant to appeal to the best American Home Videos audiences, I guess.

A dumb action rom-com with misogynistic overtones, This Means War is an unfunny mess of a movie where nothing much happens, little matters, and the romance is absolutely horrible. What little action we get is awful, Chelsea Handler is incredibly annoying, and it's impossible to root for either male lead.

This movie may have been better if it did away with the spy stuff. The spy scenes were lukewarm, and the humor that was based around it was even worse. A twist would have made this choice appropriate, but there was no twist to be found. It exists in its own dull world that I am gladly not a part of and was upset to be exposed to. Chelsea Handler was funny most of the time, and Reese Witherspoon is charismatic. This is nowhere near enough to carry the film.

A 14-year-old judges a movie based on whether or not he or she is entertained, and when this year's 14-year-olds are 25, they'll still remember This Means War fondly, but they'll make excuses for it, saying they were only 14. The actors are good-looking and mostly competent. The sequences and interactions are interesting enough. The action is fun, the characters are nice, the story arc is satisfying, and there's enough of a budget to make everything look & sound really good. To a 14-year-old.

Two CIA agents are infatuated with the same woman which tests their long time friendship. Each use the resources of their job to gain an advantage. Reese Witherspoon plays a sweet woman faced with choosing between them. Some dangerous international intrigue threatens to kill them. Smart, funny, satisfying and entertaining, except for the ridiculous way the bad guys track them down. Chelsea Handler had some funny dialog. Reese was a pleasure as usual.

Predictable, uninspired and utterly mediocre. This Means War lacks any suspense, the plot feels padded with underdeveloped characters, and the humour is far from original. There are a few decent laughs to be had from the bickering, pettiness and one-upmanship between Hardy and Pine's characters, but on the whole not much else to look forward to.

It was pretty much what I expected - a generic rom-com in the guise of an action-comedy, with a fundamentally-interesting premise. While it had the trademark one-liners and jokes that come with the genre, and what was a very solid comedic performance by Pine and a good performance by Tom Hardy (not to mention excellent interplay between the two of them), I dunno... it still just felt kind of average to me. It lacks any real suspense within any of the action beats. Nothing special, but not bad.

"Comedy=Tragedy+Time" - Steve Allen. "We will plant a 1000 trees" - Hitler Jugend. Hollywood Hack McG has churned out an impressive amount of trash considering he has no last name. This time is no different. Two sexy spies project the lacanian Other and such suppressed sexuality that Witherspoon's blank character is easily manipulated into "love" (mirroring). No real talk ensues. 0/10 Worth no viewings. For similar material see Knight & Day which incidentally stars Tom "2ft Tall" Cruise. Funny

The trailer promotes the film as a comedy/action for the male audience, but in fact it turns out to be more of a rom-com with just as much Witherspoon screen time as the guys have and only a hint of action. By going in two opposite directions at once, it becomes the "perfect" comprise for a couple's movie choice. There a little in there for both the guy and the girl... but no one will truly like it. And oh, obviously the wrong guy gets the girl *tsk-tsk*

The beginning actually looked promising, until the rom-com kicked in and sucked the life out of this film. The romancing portion simply feels so puerile and got old very soon. In contrast, action is well-executed, and it's a crying shame that we see so little of it in this film.

I really enjoyed this comedy. I thought that Chris Pine and Tom Hardy were both really good in their parts and Reese did an ok job as the "hot" girl they were both going after. The action with the evil German guy felt like it was just thrown in there for some good action scenes but if you just judge this movie as a romantic comedy it does a pretty great job. I laughed quite a few times and it kept my interest even though it was getting really late while I was watching it. Very fun.

McG's gets clumsier as his procedures as a poor director, delivering a phony bromance and a heavy-handed comedy, reveal how this one is a shame of a film -- actually his worst. Basically, he can't direct a romantic triangle that demands some subtlety -- the lines are said and edited as if he were shooting a car chase -- or a lighter touch with the actors he's working with. McG brutalizes every material he touches. He's like the Stephen Daldry of action films. He's just really bad.

A gross misuse of goverment funds all to stalk and attempt to bone Witherspoon? I don't know why I bothered watching this other than to murder some time. While this may be pure low-brow entertainment, cliche trash, it is relatively well executed with 3 incredible leading actors. I didn't really like this movie in the beginning but it grew on me towards the second half of the movie. I like the mix of action, romance, and comedy. Reese Witherspoon plays a character who was probably written just for her. She is a sweet girl who moved to LA from Atlanta. She's had some issues with love but she's ready to get back out there. Chelsea Handler plays her raunchy best friend who makes her a dating profile online. Pine and Hardy are spies who want to get the girl. The plot is blah

All the highly unethical violations of privacy aside, WHY TF would WITHERSPOON CHOOSE THE MAN-WHORE OVER THE MUCH MORE SEXIER, CUTER, MORE GROUNDED, MORE RELIABLE AND ALL-AROUND BETTER MAN?!?!??!? Gawd. We really want to uphold to the ridiculous notion that a woman would rather choose a problematic pig over a reasonable man because pigs provide more excitement? Sorry, I've hardly ever seen that happen in real life. That is a myth and makes women look like dumb-dumbs.

It's so bog standard that it's hard to say much about it. There's nothing egregiously bad about it, but the annoying shaky cam action scenes and daft attempts at a love triangle, especially the lazy conclusion they reach regarding this, don't exactly delight me. The jokes in this movie don't even warrant a chuckle, but there is unintentional humor if you try to interpret this movie from the perspective of its political ramifications. Is THIS what taxpayer dollars go to?

It would be a total bore... if it weren't because Witherspoon has plenty of chemistry with both Pine and Hardy, who also have great chemistry with each other. Really, if any of the three leads were less skilled, it would be a significantly less entertaining movie.
