This Joan Crawford drama sinks in its own boring melodrama. Some elegance to it and David Brian did look like the coldhearted killer he was supposed to be, but the film doesn't strike the cord it wants to and it ends up a failed attempt. At the box office too. Which meant Crawford was finished as a contract player at Warner Bros.
