Four Vietnam vets are the last line of defense for a remote American town under attack from a pack of psychotic, murderous hippies led by Sam Raimi doing his best Charles Manson impersonation. It's admittedly pretty funny seeing Raimi strangle a baby or declare himself the Messiah, but this flick is denied greatness by poor pacing. The finale is hilarious with splatter galore, but the first hour drags forever with barely anything happening.

Thou shalt fast forward to the last 30 minutes to get to the good stuff.

It's not really any better than the super 8 version. The acting and directing is just as bad the only upgrade is that it's longer and the picture quality is clearer. It also has some weird comic bits similar to Sam Raimi & Peter Jackson's early work

The best thing about this movie is the scenes with Manson and his cohorts acting like complete idiots while they kill people. And that part isn't even that good. Raimi is kind of amusing and whiney in the Manson role, but there's not much to keep this film up. I think Becker's a good writer, so I suspect this was meant to be some sort of ironic commentary, like Jack Starrett's The Losers, but even in that context, it's a trifle.

Ultra low budget movie made by the people who were involved with Evil Dead as well. Not much similarities between them. This flick is very poor, you have to love grindhouse to enjoy it. Sam Raimi as an actor is the highlight.
