Criminally underseen Canadian medical drama slash speculative science fiction. Donald Sutherland is incredible and a young Jeff Goldblum holds his own very well. Great camerawork too. It's a shame this isn't on DVD.

Beautiful photography from Michel Brault, some elegant music, a crisp script from Salter channeling Chayefsky, and two terrific lead performances. Sutherland is channeling a toned-down Hawkeye, whereas Goldblum is laying the foundation for Seth Brundle. The dialogue is terrific, controlled and careful, yet revealing.

I feel like nothing happened the entire time. Shame.

First time in a while I've rewatched a new film within days. Dramatically "weak" but in welcome service to the implications and ambiguities of the themes, which speak powerfully and presciently to the intersections of human life, technological innovation, and show business. The hospital and surgery scenes are like nothing that came before and almost nothing since, the combination of Brault's serpentine camera and the spare spacey score placing the innovations of THE KNICK in finer perspective.
