This is a under-the-radar Jimmy Stewart film where he's a oil driller and he found a spot out in the bay of Louisiana. To do this, he has to settle with the shrimp fishermen and there's always a dame to deal with too but this is a decent film, kind of reminded me of John Wayne's Hellfighters and it is nowhere near as good as There Will Be Blood with Daniel Day-Lewis.

It's almost but not quite a Western--and that's the trouble.

The conflict seems contrived, and the romantic entanglement silly. However, Jimmy Stewart makes it a watchable film.

Em honra do centenário de Joanne Dru. Esperava bem mais de um Mann, especialmente com a sólida parceria dele com o Stewart nos westerns cheio de obras-primas. BlurayRip R.A.R.B.G.

Underwhelming, after seeing some of the other Mann/Stewart collaborations. But even on its own, the film doesn't always hold together. The women fit into the story oddly, while the veeeery pro-oil message strikes me as naive. This throws the film off balance, and makes the fishermen backwoods rubes standing against the obvious benefits of PROGRESS.
