Problem teens in Los Angeles join an inner-city wilderness project in and attempt to get back in touch with life's priorities, led by do-gooders Holly and Charles. When they get to the campsite, they begin having problems adjusting to the wild life, particularly local marijuana growers using herbal steroids to accelerate plant growth, and the mutated ticks that the leaky steroid system has created. Actually not terrible for what it is. A good if random cast (hi Oz, hi Carlton), competent direction, and some decent creature effects. The script isn't anything to write home about, but any flick with not one but TWO Howard brothers has some solid B-movie cred.

Oh my God, Carlton! What's that hideous thing growing out of your neck? Ah, never mind. It's just your head.

A 90's creature-feature where a decent cast and some really strong practical effects make this B-movie a solid watch for genre fans. Although, the plot is just generic monster-movie fare, the performances of a young Seth Green in the lead, and a great Clint Howard appearance, easily help the movie along. However, getting to see Alfonso Ribeiro, aka "Carlton", play the aggressive street kid who posthumously gets transformed into a gigantic, roided-out, super tick is kind of alone worth the watch.

One of the creepiest monster designs I've seen. I hate ticks anyway, so I felt squirmy whenever a huge tick made its presence. Fun fact: a tick WILL explode when in contact with fire

Neat little 90s horror flick. The plot, which is very tongue-in-cheek, involves evil pot farmers whose chemical tampering with Mother Nature leads to massive growth in the tick population. A group of campers, led by a very young Seth Green, face down with the creepy bloodsuckers. It's a solid effort, with some predicably terrible dialogue, and thoroughly enjoyable performances from Green, who flashes some of his comic brilliance, and Alfonso Ribeiro as a hilariously miscast streetwise thug.

After this and Hellraiser II, Tony Randel is not a good director, who seems to bring in a pair of evil pot growers later on here because the central premise of giant mutant ticks is not enough to push the plot. The only interesting things in this are the special effects and Alfonso Ribeiro, who I grew up watching in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air as Carlton, as a tough guy. Aside from that, there is little else.

As good as it could be with such a silly premise.

This is a zany creature feature that never quite gets as good as it could've been thanks in a large part to the terrible acting.

The premise is good, if nothing special, & the monster of choice is pretty damn terrifying- it's just that the execution is so wildly off the mark. The writing is really bad, with dull characters, nonsensical dialogue, bad attempts at comedy, & a very stilted, oddly paced plot. The performances are meh, with even Green & Ribeiro not being at their best, & while there are some cool effects here & there, they don't make up for everything else being so blah. Overall, pretty forgettable.

That was kind of funny actually, with sorta fresh elements for a horror movie still. The ticks were relatively well done and creepy enough. Of course it's very dumb too: so be warned, put your brain on OFF, and enjoy the cheap ride. It might traumatise young kids though, heh!
