Tierra

I guess you have to see it twice to really appreciate it. Wonderful film from one of the best present directors.

Although I saw this quite a few years ago, my recollection is that it was extremely well-made and interesting in several respects, but the portrayal of the female characters bothered me.

Has weird charm with a hint of existential pondering, and provides a fluent watching experience. Unfortunately, at around the final fifth of the film this flow starts to deteriorate, and thus the ending isn't as effective as it could've been.

Julio Medem is completely hit or miss, but i found this one to be just a little more on the hit side of things. Like all his films, it's kind of gimmicky and too eager to impress, and it feels very much like an adolescent male fantasy, but i admire the imagination behind it. In a lot of ways it feels like a warm-up for Sex and Lucia, which actually sort of works in it's favor, even if the occasional attempts at philosophical/poetic "depth" fall flat.
