This film channels Bergman with a touch of surrealism, but still there's novelty here. The cinematography is beautiful and the script is often poetic and sincerely heartfelt. But in its meandering it feels like it missed the mark. The explicit scenes seem tacked on to deflect attention from the films shortcomings and the surreal touches seem weirdly inappropriate. It feels like the script was a vehicle for too many ideas and they drown each other out. Still recommended though.

It sounded like a Jewish horror movie. It was an art film. A bad one. Wah-wah.
