After watching Timecop, you may wish to travel back in time to prevent yourself from watching Timecop. But altering the past has consequences, you know, so now having never seen Timecop, your morbid curiosity will probably be piqued and you'll end up watching Timecop. It seems we're doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. Just remember, the same matter can't occupy the same space, whatever the fuck that means.

'Timecop' is not only a legitimately good movie, in it Van Damme provides us with, hold on, a next-to-decent performance. Action-fans probably won't be satisfied and it's very generic to the 90s. That said, the sci-fi world, Ron Silver's bad guy, the plot (at least in the first two-thirds of the flick) - all decently watchable and enjoyable. Or did I, perhaps, rewatch it through a rosy haze of nostalgia?

Y'know, I never thought I'd describe a Jean-Claude Van Damme time travel movie as remotely competent, but here we are. The actual time travel in this movie is horrendous, but I dare you to think about that in the frenzy of mullets and splits that is Timecop. What are you, a nerd?

There is a great idea for a SF novel/film. Instead of proceeding to make a great film based on that idea, this film doesn't get any deeper than the film's title (he is a cop of time and he goes back in time to be a cop). The best thing about this film is when the villain dies, and we really get to see those 1994 CGI effects working.

Add this to the long list of mainstream productions which squander their intellectual or entertainment potential by having to act like a mainstream Hollywood film. The implications of Jean-Claude Van Damme in his prime and time travel brings to mind so many ridiculous (or inspired) moments that you could get somewhat in a more lurid b-movie, but it throws away such opportunities by trying to include an emotional aspect that is central to the film that is not special in any way.

Very cheesy, and it eschews a deeper exploration of the effects of meddling with time travel so that JCVD can dish out more beatings; this is either a good or bad thing, I can't decide. It's entertaining enough, and pretty easy to watch. It suffers from not being Bloodsport, though, as all his films do.

The repetitive quality of the action takes the more thoughtful matters of the plot down a peg, but for those willing to withhold their skepticism and more far-sighted considerations, Timecop offers its own hemmed-in sci-fi action perks. Uneven and full of fractures and inconsistencies, Timecop is a smoothly executed, swift-moving and tepidly amusing B movie. Those who don't allow themselves to be too easily aggrieved by cliches or indifference for logical coherence should still enjoy it.

I was expecting this movie to rock because some critics said that it was Van Damme's best to date. Obviously said critic had never seen Lion Heart, Bloodsport, Death Warrant, Kickboxer, and Hard Target. And Double Impact. Oh...and uh...No Retreat No Surrender too.

I like Van Damme even if he's not a very good actor. He's actually ok here and it's a fun film if you can ignore that all the time travel stuff, central to the plot, makes no sense.

Viewed March 5, 2021. Ends with an extended fight in the rain that's so dark you can't see any of JCVD's moves and honestly, it's awesome. Peter Hyams is always making things much more complicated than they need to be.

Van Damme specialised in semi-low rent action flicks with a standard revenge plot, but Timecop was slightly more ambitious, despite the presence of the routine revenge theme. Some of the effects have obviously aged--they were never cutting edge, not even in 1994--and it's often contrived and silly, but it has its virtues, including a villain played with good humour by Silver and decently executed action scenes by Hyams whose inky blacks and symmetrical shots make them visually appealing.

Consistently solid action flick that lands on everything with solid plot beats and really creative action scenes. Kinda wish they went a bit more ham on the time travel instead of limiting shit to just the last 10 years and playing with its established rules more often; especially considering how hard it copped out its interesting plot beat about the betrayal, but as a justification for its action setpieces it's solid and even manages to look decent visually too.

The only thing I remember about this fine film is that an irish cop says some corny lines after someone falls to their death. It's pretty forgettable but this was the high watermark in Van Damme's career because Timecop grossed the most money out of all his cheesy films.

Silly Van-Damme timewaster is distinguished by Hyams' classy work behind the lens, a nice bit of underplayed overplaying by Silver, and a venerable time-travel concept that may not be exploited as well as it could be, but provides enough of a hook to keep things interesting. Van-Damme leans into “baffled and confused Arnie” mode ala TOTAL RECALL to moderate success and it’s always interesting as to how much more of a “man of the flesh” he is than his fellow action hero brothers!

The assassins in this movie are incompetent even by movie bad guy standards. Most of the action isn't all that great, but the story is at least fun despite all the holes. Also, you'd think people who work with time travel would be more likely to listen when an agent is trying to tell them that the past has been changed.

Lmao pretty hype, idk why I waited so long to watch it seems like a VHS I should have hit up 20, 25 years ago. Macho shoot em up action + sci fi is a winner for me. Time travel rules make no sense but who cares. I figured it was illegal for a JCVD movie not to end in a fighting tournament, guess not. Climax was a little underwhelming tho; not always a huge fan of rainy nighttime action scenes. Appreciated Mia Sara’s nude scene but maybe the boobs are fake? Looked kinda big for her frame.

Timecop is an enjoyable movie assuming you turn your brain off prior to watching. This approach generally works as the fast-paced nature of the movie serves to stop you from noticing too many issues.
