When a wind-up one-man band toy looks up and sees just how boisterous, BIG, and destructive the baby can be, he does everything he can to flee--even if it means hiding under the couch. But when the baby falls down and gets hurt, the tin toy has to decide on survival, or doing what a toy's got to do. (imdb)

Holy shit, that is one ugly, badly animated baby. The short is kind of cute at times but the age really gets in the way and the rest is ok but not consistent enough to make up for it.

Think of it as you might an Atari 2600 game - yeah, an Atari game isn't very entertaining by modern standards, but if you want to know where Super Mario Bros. came from, you have to play it. Similarly, while Tin Toy isn't very funny or well-animated compared to WALL-E or Ratatouille, if you want to know where Toy Story came from, you have to watch it.

A Lovecraftian horror story where a toy soldier is tormented by a baby that looks like Benedict Cumberbatch.

The interesting roots of Pixar. That terrifying CGI baby though...No reprieve or excuse for that.

Badly animated, and has a horrible plotline. Possibly the worst short ever made.

Interesting to watch as a precursor to both Toy Story and Pixar animation in general.

The baby is plain horrific and badly animated, but the rest of "Tin Toy" is quite cute. Just a slight indication of what was yet to come.

More Pixar oldies. Plot creats a decent story. The baby is pretty ugly but so is his character in the story. I.e. fits good.

That baby was just creepy. I can see why Pixar nixed realism and went to keeping humans cartoonish.

The plot may be as thin as tin but I thought it had some funny moments. I must point out how bad the baby was animated though, it looked like it climbed out of the pits of hell it was so scary. Once you get over the demon baby you will get some laughs from the Tin Toy. The baby has scared all the other toys so they are hiding, but the Tin Toy feels bad for the baby...

Points for a decent narrative and some good visual effects - especially the lighting. But as with other early Pixar efforts the sound is incredibly annoying. Of note is also the horrendously animated (and the terrifying design of) the baby. It gives me the creeps, not helped by the way it moves. Ugh. I can acknowledge it being groundbreaking for it's time, but it's very distracting.

Great animation for its time but that baby is the stuff of nightmares and has no parent / carer to be seen. It'd probably be dead the amount of time it's left alone.

The baby looked horrendous, but it's a cute little story and probably the inspiration for Toy Story. Hints at what Pixar was to become.

Ok, this is not the Pixar as we know it, the short feature is just some sort of demonstration than a real animation. And the baby is goddam scary!

A little tin musical soldier toy evades the exuberant baby that's it's new owner. Pixar's third short is really magnificent showcase for their new rendering engine and how it handles surfaces and reflections ... as well as a disturbing example of how they were not really ready to animate humans yet. It's an amusing watch if the monstrous baby doesn't give you nightmares.

The primitive CG are excusable, I suppose, since it's 1988, but not the fact that it's aesthetically ugly. And thematically it's already the airheaded cutesiness that would become Pixar's trademark.

Early Pixar short that serves as a very crude blueprint for Toy Story. The animation looks a bit ropey these days but the humour's still there.
