Economides' moody, leisurely paced and deliberately unpleasant nenoir has plenty of atmospheric power and a grim, hard-hitting message about the decadence of modern Greek society. However, the script's (composed by a shocking total of five writers) shots at a gutter-poetry sort of dialogue fall well below the standards of, say, Mamet, resulting in obviousness and hyperbole. Ultimately, Economides' economic helming and Mourikis' unforgettable character partially salvage the writing's clunkiness.
