This is all about Poitier. Without him the flimsiness of the premise would show too much and it would at best be a passable comedy. But with him everything gets the gravitas it needs to be somewhat moving and meaningful. It's still a bit silly, but it works decently enough to be enjoyable.

Although a little dated this film sets off a cinematical tradition of the unknowing teacher beset with teaching a myriad of troubled students in unorthodox methods. Uplifting and inspiring...and the ending is very memorable with the the title song sung by LULU. Extremely touching and poignant. A must see!

This movie definitely feels like a time capsule of the 1960's comedies and just the overall silliness of the 60's in general But once you get past all that it is a well written story

An under rated film and a brilliant snap shot of late sixties London and a rapidly disappearing east end. Sidney Poitier is marvellous, sympathetically playing the part and is very believable. Plenty of cameo performances to watch out for too.. A touching and charming film

One of the better teacher movies. Poitier is excellent, as usual, and as such you actually buy the story even though it's corny as all get out

There's something to be said for inventing an entire genre of films.

As some have said, it feels a bit like a time capsule. The dialogue and ideas are very dated, especially with respect to the young women. Still, it's very charming and Poitier is great. Many new teacher/troubled students films would follow this blueprint, and many with great success.

Parts of it do not hold up well, but it's still a charming movie.

Basically sweet--though a bit hard to take quite all the way seriously. The script/plot seems a bit truncated in places. Pre-Shogun Clavell.

Poitier was wonderful. A tad too much cockney to completely understand all parts though.

The film is very very Swinging Sixties with Lulu's title song popping up every 10 minutes and the Mindbenders contributing a bunch of songs, but it's a very entertaining version of an oft repeated formula. It was a surprise hit proving that Poitier was big box office in the US.

The original "teacher gets through to unruly kids" movie. My mom's favourite film. Not much of it is entertaining.

Perhaps mawkish to a fault, dated in presentation, and scared of some of the true story's more controversial realities, the material covered by "To Sir, With Love" is anything but, thanks in large part (of course) to the outstanding Sidney Poitier.
