It definitely shows it's age, with out-dated conceptions of drag and gender non-conformity, alongside some unfortunate racial stereotypes that would never pass in a movie today. But you know what? it was fun. It had an important message. It celebrated drag as an art form and queerness as an identity. And most of all it had some genuine heart and soul to it. And in a Hollywood full of forced sentimentality, films that actually come from a real heartfelt place are still something special.

aside from seeing the three main characters in drag, this movie will impress nearly anyone with it's cross-dressing drama.

A pleasant surprise, actually. Good, clean drag-queen fun.

I know I'm gonna get lynched for this, but I prefer this to Priscilla Queen of the desert.

Really forgettable. Like, "I can't remember anything about this movie except guys dress up like girls" forgettable.

America's version of Priscilla, with American actors and American humor. If you're hip to the Ozzies you'll like the other film better.

Should I be offended or laugh along? I guess I'll choose the latter for this road trip/stuck in small town/people coming together despite their differences movie. There's not really much of a plot here. There are other movies about drag queens/gender nonconformists with more heart. Would have liked to see the competition at the end. Fav scene: state troopers laughing at Sheriff Dullard.

This had so much potential, but unfortunately falls into generic 90's comedy cliches. Swayze, Snipes, and Leguizamo really save this from being bad. If you haven't seen The Birdcage, do yourself a favor and watch that first. If you still want more than come back to this one.

Obviously, it's got a very 90s idea of the complicatedness of Gender, with a few scenes that'd make a modern gender nonconformist cringe. But it's deeply and unironically about how these people are valid no matter what they are or chose to be, and how accepting them not just as themselves but as members of your community makes that community so much stronger. Plus, fantastic performances from our leads; Patrick Swayze in particular exudes deep and wondrous vulnerability from the first frame.

It's always a pleasure to see the great Stockard Channing, and I have to say I rather enjoyed Wesley Snipes as a drag queen. The writing was generally MUCH better than I expected it to be, too. But in its attempt to appeal to a mainstream audience, everything is over-simplified, too pat. The audience is never invited to experience anything resembling a complex emotional response, and so it descends to feel-good hokum. It's too bad... the good writing almost saves it.

I heard about this movie's title forever. I never thought it'd be good, but it was. Think: footloose with trannies instead of a dancer.

Pretty underrated movie. Swayze, Snipes, and Johnny Legs are pretty great acting wise. The plot could be better, but it's not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

Basically every "worldly city-folk crash-lands in bumfuck, nowheresville and teaches them about culture, and in turn learns something themselves." In drag. -5 points for not having a dance number at the end.

East Coast drag queens teach racist, naive, prude, womanizing, generally backwards Midwestern folk a thing or two about culture and self-respect.

You'll get a few kicks seeing Swayze, Snipes, and Leguizamo in Drag, but the plot just isn't good.
