Giorgos Papyros, a tanner in the countryside, is trying really hard to rescue his small industry. Giorgos is hoping to get a bank loan, but his request is rejected. He turns to a successful emigrant, who wants to marry his daughter, who dreams of being an actress. However, she turns him down, not wanting to get married to someone she doesn't love- especially after being raped. The poor businessman has nothing but debts and he has no choice but to become, a worker at the nearby factory.
