There's nothing much to recommend here. Unlike other 'classics' in this genre (Las Hurdes) this one takes easy, cheap shots at its subjects, and lacks coherence, feeling more like 6 short films within a short film.

The only thing interesting about this short is how far Tokyo and Japan has come with cleaning up their city and country.

Only seems to take itself half seriously.

a satirical city-symphony-esque sort of thing. certainly has some interesting moments, juxtaposing old art with modern life, but mostly it's a jumble, causing it to lose a lot of intrigue with a bunch of dry nonsense regarding makeup tips and singing contests. it seems the addition of eight extra directors serve only to dilute teshigahara's unique directorial vision. too many cooks etc.
