Thanks to the excellent cinematography, Tokyo looks great. That, sadly, is the extent of the excellence. The personae of the two principals are so opaque--and I understand that some of that is intentional--that it is impossible to connect with them. Whatever happened to acting craft? Is that so old-fashioned a notion? Moss-Bachrach can barely enunciate. The only actor that excited any interest whatsoever was Shusaku Kakizawa as the translator/assistant.
