Tokyo no onna

I mostly feel bad for the sister, her brother was a coward and an ass.

Okada is brilliant as she goes from loving sister to office girl to painted lady of the night, rounding it out at the end as a proud, unrepentant woman. She stands firm believing she has done merely what had to be done, and Okada puts a grim face to this sentiment.not as deep nuanced balanced as I've come to expect from Ozu, but still enough stylistically and in the performances to merit a viewing. (At 45 minutes, why not?)

Ureo Egawa finds out that his sister Yoshiko Okada is supporting him through school by prostituting herself and in this half-length Yasujiro Ozu movie we go through the reactions and sad outcome of this great shame. It's a very teary movie and the ladies steal it with their teary eyes. It's only a minor Ozu, but it's effective enough.
