Too Late the Hero

Always good to see some familiar faces. The run across the field didn't make sense to me though.

A lesser-known Robert Aldrich gem. I had low expectations; war films of this era tend to be pretty predictable. However, this one surprised me; it's very nihilistic, very much not the Vietnam War hoo-rah you'd expect. Michael Caine and Denholm Elliott steal the show. Cliff Robertson, who I've never rated too well, wasn't anything remarkable here. In fact, I'd argue that another actor, say a Charles Bronson/Steve McQueen sort of guy would've worked much better.
