Top End Wedding

Tapsell and Lee are pretty funny even though they lack chemistry as a couple. While not the best RomCom, Top End Wedding is a decent comedy with plenty of genuine laughs that delivers a positive (albeit saccharine) message on the importance of cultural heritage. Despite several clichés, the heavy focus on Aboriginal Australians (and Australia in general) makes the film feel fresh.

Amiable and endearing rom-com manages to conquer a lack of chemistry between its leads and a lurching, overstated quality to its establishing scenes. Once it finds its own rhythm as a familiar but sweet-hearted tale of cultural identity, it becomes a fine crowd-pleaser, distinguished by a sparky supporting cast; Higginson's lovelorn father is especially good, and it's nice to see Fox show up here as well. Use of stunningly rugged Australian scenery as a backdrop is a definite asset.
