The existence of Bay's "Pearl Harbor" adds ten points to this film's deserved score in compensation.

If you ever wanted to see a movie with such a down ending that leaves you feeling good about your country, this is it.

Spectacular re-enactment of the Pearl Harbour attack. It's almost documentary in style so there's little in the way of commentary or sub-plots but there's more than enough tension and drama to notice. The special effects still hold up and the sound is quality. The only major flaw is the dialogue, both the writing of and the editing of. There are to many awkward interactions and conversations between characters.

A hell of a lot better than Pearl Harbor but still kind of ho-hum.

Feels like a straightforward account of what happened, lacking any emotional pull for me. The ending was good though.

A truly compelling account of the events leading up to and surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor. Occasionally the acting from some of the bit parts is noticeably wooden, but this becomes a non-issue when weighed against the beautifully-paced tension-packed scenes, and the jaw-dropping effects employed to make this well-researched screenplay come to life.

The definitive pearl harbor movie. A lot of things go boom here!

The documentary style that slowly turns into raw action is close to perfect. The special effects was amazing, surpassing most movies to this day. Also, having a balanced movie that doesn't vilify any side is not something I see very often.

I've been watching this film for years, but I noticed something new this time: in the first half, practically no scene lasts longer than a couple of minutes, which comes at the expense of much character or political detail, though it's all quite competently handled. The second half, however, covering the attack, is extremely well done (the special effects won a deserved Oscar) and the film ends on a properly somber note. All in all, a worthy (if hardly comprehensive) overview of history.

Meticulously detailed, well-balanced historical epic - that the Japanese get near dominant screen time (in their own language) in a Hollywood blockbuster is notable. Unfortunately the expositional nature of the first 90 minutes makes the film dry and soporific, not helped by fine actors giving weighty and monotonous performances, almost harking back to biblical epics as they speak words they know are full of great import. The attack itself is a fine and potent example of action film-making.

A slow, careful walkthrough of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. The Japanese segments are better written, directed, and acted than the American ones and possess some real humanity and humour. By comparison the American segments are a dry, stilted and awkward recounting of a sequence of events. The film neatly ignores the political situation before the war, and the unfathomably horrific atomic genocide that ended it, to concentrate on the remarkable "surgical strike" that began it.

Fantastic action sequences, and I loved the duality of perspectives, for the majority of the beginning it's mostly on the light side only providing with the political aspects of the situation. When the action starts, though, it's hard to stop watching, I also didn't appreciate the ending. Great movie, with few flaws, but the ones that it does have are prominent.

Unexpectedly watchable war-em-up with some astonishing pre-cgi stunts and explosions

The finale sequence looked like one of the most unsafe film sets to work on, I personally saw at least 5 men perish in flames all to lend their bit towards a faithful re-enactment.

While this hasn't aged well, in the age of incredible, realer-than-life effects, the dual storyline, from the POV of the Japanese as well as the Americans, was an early effort to show that the enemy was human too.

Almost has a docu-film kind of feel, but that's probably because the dialogue seemed very flat and matter-of-fact. Very accurate and informational, but no real emotion or drama to speak of.

Almost like a comedy of errors, but if it was a documentary than a lot of the dialogue sounds more scripted than I'd like. Some spectacular battle scenes, the like of which are pretty much unrivalled from its contemporary films, but over all it's verging on average. It also just sort of ends in the middle of nowhere.

Filme #10.000 no Letterboxd: Tora! Tora! Tora! estreava há 50 anos nos EUA. Diria que é um filme interessante com tensão cirúrgica e tudo mais, mas aqueles planos reiterados com a bandeira americana ao som de música cafona me deu engulhos. BlurayRip EXTENDED RARBG.

I'm extremely fond of this film. Like it's directors, there's not a lot of flash here, but it's a fascinating and balanced portrayal of the events leading up to the attack. You rarely see real planes and ships used this systematically in a war film, and it makes a huge difference. It's a really classy affair that didn't get the respectit deserved in 1970.
