I don't normally care for Bugs Bunny's early shorts (or the way Clampett drew Bugs), but this one really works. Bugs as a character does frustration really well. Cecil makes for a surprisingly memorable antagonist, and he seems to have an understanding of cartoon logic that tugs at the fourth wall. This short definitely serves as solid evidence of Looney Tunes' potential.

Bugs's sore-loser aspect is interesting but I think Clampett draws him too toothy for me. Also ends on one of those weird gags where people shoot themselves in the head.

Violates a fundamental law, which is that we don't want to see Bugs Bunny lose.

It's alright, but it's much too similar to "Tortoise Beats Hare" for my taste.
