Bar a few quality moments and disjointedly put together segments, Tower Heist (or as I shall be calling it from now on, Ocean's Eleven's retarded little brother) is a disaster. Weirdly, the overall production is occasionally impressive, with some Tower shots of almost Die-Hardian scope. The bulk of the blame lies with the plot, which is a nonsensical nightmare, a fact you're reminded of in every single scene, and then once more between scenes for good measure. The cast is a bit lifeless, too.

Almost every person in the cast has impressed me at some point in their careers, and their collective charisma keeps the movie moving at a brisk enough clip. The actual heist sequence just doesn't have the verve, complexity, or creativity of a film like Ocean's Eleven though. Seeing as this is a heist flick, this is a problem. But to give Ratner credit, there is a scene that, as a person with a severe phobia of heights, made me go "Oh shit!"

Perhaps the most unwillingly funny movie I've ever seen. How did this get made? It's just filled with plot holes, inconsistencies and so many unanswered questions. But that is also why I give it such a high score. Because it is so funny to talk about.

In a way, I like the stupidity of all these characters, and I see this one as such a happy film for Eddie, who is fortunately back to basics. For a heist film set in a period of financial breakdown, it should be at least a little bit more intelligent. And, well, Ratner doesn't know how to handle with the rest of these guys -- I just couldn't hear Casey Affleck's voice; no, really, I couldn't. But that scene with the car in the heights scared the hell out of me.

Just another half assed heist movie. Basically the most enjoyment I got out of this is laughing at Ben Stiller existing in the same movie as Eddie Murphy and a sassy black woman to a much less comical effect than desired.

It may feel like a poor man's Ocean 11 with less attractive people pulling off a less complex heist with less snappy dialogue, but it's still entertaining. It's nice to see Murphy return to his roots as a streetwise guy who doesn't wear a fat suit. Pena deserves a mention as he's the funniest person overall. Even Broderick chips in some laughs (even if his character's inclusion in the heist makes no sense). It'll get some undeserved hate, but I found it a fun movie. Give it a chance.

With the amount of talent involved, 'Tower Heist' deserves to be less generic than its title suggests. Director Brett Ratner wants to combine 'Rush Hour' with 'Ocean's Eleven,' but he fails---delivering a comedy that isn't all that funny. Eddie Murphy is criminally underused, but in the little time he has, he makes the most of it, returning to the element of his glory days. Outside of Murphy, the other actors fail to generate excitement. Aside from one memorable visual, 'Tower Heist' flops.

Very fun. Very entertaining. When I come across it again, I'll watch it. The people who compare this to Oceans are making a mistake, it was never meant to be seen like that. More comedy than heist this is for people looking for laughs not people looking for complicated heist and intense action. Its a little insane how many people are reviewing this as a serious movie.

Surprisingly sharp and biting for awhile, thanks to some worthy performances and a crackling script. Soon enough, though, it deflates into nothing more than a lot of incongruously generic, slapsticky, sitcommy tomfoolery. It should also be stated that Murphy--in a pretty smallish part, actually--delivers a performance that approaches "Pluto Nash"-level blandness.

The only funny parts are when Eddie Murphy has lines, which is only about two scenes. Everyone else is brutal. Sidibe is truly horrible. So the comedy stinks, and the plan is so stupid that it doesn't work as a heist flick either. Also, it shocking to see Matthew Broderick's physical appearance now compared to even ten years ago. As someone else said, maybe so much porking Sarah Jessica Parker that the ugly is rubbing off? :)

A harmless, forgettable movie with a decent cast and a predictable story line. The camera work on the actual heist of the car was actually impressive and made me feel nauseous, cause I'm not a fan of heights you feel me? But the heist itself was pretty stupid. The ending was wasted, despite the fact that Ratner tried to end it in a meaningful way. A movie that no one will remember in 5 years.

Inoffensively innocuous and immediately forgettable. There aren't very many laughs, (although Broderick's 'Matlock' line nearly made me piss my pants) and the plot is silly and somewhat lightweight. "Tower Heist" is exactly what you'd expect from any Brett Ratner movie; a little bland, not too much flair or innovation, but perfectly harmless entertainment.

Predictable and unfunny for most of the duration. Repeating the same unfunny joke multiple times, does not make it funny. Eddie Murphy has a return to form that brings most of the laughs from the movie though he does overstay his welcome. With it's star studded cast, Tower Heist comes across as an incredibly poor attempt at trying to replicate the success of the recent Ocean's trilogy of heist films.

Agreeable caper film begins awfully sluggishly (and seriously) but kicks into gear once Murphy takes centre stage and builds to a wonderful heist sequence with a dizzying payoff. Jokes were terrible, script sounded like it was written by a half witted chimpanzee, and the story could have been thought up by a 8 year old. Looked like no one was attempting any proper acting besides gaboray sideday or whatever her name is...Everyone jus reading their script out loud with hardly any emotion... Yawn!

Brett Ratner creates a film that not only appears to be funny, but really is filled with genuine laughs. The huge cast is great, most notably Eddie Murphy and Gabourey Sidibe, who tend to bring more to their characters then the rest. A fun comedy, fairly simple execution, but still a film that is worthwhile. It won't blow your mind with outrageous comedy, but still a comedy that is very fun and refreshing at times. Give it a shot, you won't know how you feel about it until you do.

A pretty run of the mill heist movie starring Casey Affleck, Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick and Alan Alda. The idea that a group of staff workers at a famous tower in New York get swindled by Alan Alda's ponzi scheme and so they decide to rob him and get their pensions back is an interesting one. It has all the planning and plotting that you see in each heist movie like learning how to crack a safe or finding out where security cameras are... so it is an ok movie just not great.

Tower Heist boasts an impressive cast featuring the likes of Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck and Michael Peña but yet remarkably manages to be awful. Now even by Director Brett Ratner's standards this a joke. He sucked the life out of the entire X-Men cast and now this. Brett Ratner shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Directors chair of any film. I initially saw the cast and was intrigued, but only when realising Brett Ratner's involvement did it all make sense.

I'm so thankful that Ratner is back in his buddy action-comedy wheelhouse where he belongs that I will overlook the fact that the titular set piece relies too much on its unsubtle rip-offs of great moments from other heist movies to be quite as thrilling or surprising as it would've been had they done more with their own potentially exciting ideas.

Not quite as awful as I expected, for a minute I was actually enjoying it as Stiller assembled his Ocean's Eleven-style heist team and prepared to take on the tower. The script didn't really stick to that formula the way I would have liked. It went dumb, like solid-gold-car-on-a-wire dumb. And the movie's ending was both abrupt and oddly enigmatic in not explaining where all those characters went and how they went about breaking down and selling off the gold car parts. Dumb, couple of laughs.

Why would they have to sneak past the very hotel workers that they plan to give the spoils of the job to? This and many other plot holes riddle this half-assed heist flick, so while the vicarious pleasure of Robin Hood-esque stealing is still there (see when Mr. Malloy sees his car is missing) it never lasts for long (surely a car made of gold would be too heavy for an elevator). Mediocre characters and scant humour (Murphy's wild Slide is probably the highlight) don't do much to help.

(Viewed in 2012): T.H is a rather typical example of a post-GFC film that exploits the resentment people have towards the economic elite for comedic effect. It's also notable for being Murphy's return to more 'edgy' roles, playing a dodgy motormouthed crook who agrees to help a bunch of squares pull off an elaborate robbery. He is watchable but too far removed from his prime to really make an impact, and Ratner's direction is predicably flaccid, although there are some good scenes.

Featuring a really good cast and a great score by Christophe Beck, "Tower Heist" doesn't mess around but runs along in very brisk pace, offering engaging action, memorable scenes and a fun tone. Truth be told, it's very carelessly written and everything happens way too easily, but that doesn't detract from the entertainment one little bit - it just shows that its creators were too lazy to make sense out of it all.
