Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Andie MacDowell, Goldie Hawn, Jenna Elfman and Garry Shandling star in this romantic comedy about life, love, friendship and the sometimes blistering nature of marital bliss. In the film, Porter Stoddard (Beatty) is a well-known New York architect who is at a crossroads... a nexus where twists and turns lead to myriad missteps some with his wife Ellie (Diane Keaton), others with longtime friends Mona (Goldie Hawn) and her husband Griffin (Garry Shandling). Deciding which direction to take often leads to unexpected encounters with hilarious consequences. (imdb)

Funny at points and amusing at others, but corny over all and a very weak ending (he really should have stuck with his friend).

Takes a bunch of talented people and a slightly amusing premise & never manages to emerge above mediocrity.

Probably needless to say, the huge money spent on this film is not up there on screen. The money was spent on cost overruns, the fact that there was no working script before everyone signed on so there was a lot of time where people sat around while the director and stars hashed out the script. Also, someone left film cans in a cab and a third of the movie had to be reshot. Crazy bad luck. But such things can happen with a Warren Beatty film; his films tend to go overschedule and overbudget. On

It had some , but it was very, very weak. When the output of a film needs to be at 8 to keep me interested. It was at 3.

There is too much improvisation and not enough script so you get the actors talking over each over and saying "you know" a lot because that's how people talk in real life all the time. The story as a whole generally fits together, but some of the scenes seem to be untrimmed off-cuts from a bad editing session, such as the "Country" house, why is that there other than because it's in the title?

Hollywood comedies about cheating spouses aren't exactly common, so there was perhaps potential in Town and Country if its script problems were sorted. Sometime during the second act it becomes clear that the talented cast are improvising their way through the film, and while they pull it off to some degree, the lack of focus proves damaging. Chelsom never really establishes a proper comic rhythm, and tonally it's a mess, veering from satire to farce with reckless abandon.
