An instant classic in which Disney did an outstanding job on. It was one of the first animated movies and set the bar for the rest of animated movies. Buzz and Woody join up and make one of my favorite movies of all time. The movie will have you laughing throughout the duration of the movie.

Because the third installment has the better story, and because of the endless hours of computer-animated entertainment, that has come and gone since, I guess it's easy to forget that this is the first of it's kind. So for spawning a genre, for boldly going, yada-yada, 'Toy Story' get's an extra double-thumbs up from this camp.

Very funny family-movie. Comparable with "Small Soldiers", but this one was better. Good for the kids and also for adults. A great story and the last 30 minutes were awesome !

Pixar burst onto the scene and instantly established the principles that make them rock to this day: gorgeous, industry-advancing animation, a genuinely sharp and funny script, great voice acting that actually sounds like the actors are using their talents and not phoning it in, and a respect for the entire age range of their audience. This is a terrific film.

Pixar takes full advantage of their new CGI with this fun & imaginative concept. And, although this doesn't yet have the more moving adult themes about the losses that come with growing old that will come w/ later installments, this is a perfect script. Clever, funny & deeply entertaining, the film also becomes as much of a thrill ride as Raiders of the Lost Ark by the end w/ the writers always figuring out ways to increase each moment of suspense in ways that feel organic & never contrived.

I can't tell how many times I watched it as a child and how much I enjoyed it. I like everything about it, characters, design, story, conflicts... I just love this movie and the full concept. And if I also think this was just the commercial beginning of the best animation studio (in my opinion) ever, followed by many other great projects and a new way into animation both technically and storytelling... Just, thanks Pixar for making these movies and bringing this movie and saga to life.

The one that started it all for Pixar. This is probably the least sophisticated movie of the franchise (both in story and animation), but that in no way detracts from just how groundbreaking it was. Still highly entertaining and enjoyable today.

The first sucessful production in a very long (and prosperous) collaboration between Disney and Pixar animation studios. The story is unique, the characters funny (and voices well casted), the animation is top notch. Toy Story (like so many of Disney/Pixar's movies) appeals to both adults and children alike.
Good, quality family flick.

I really like this movie. It's amazing. The animation was groundbreaking and on top of that, the movie is really good. Plus, I always thought my toys were alive so this movie just confirmed that suspicion.

With CGI that changed the future of animation and a story that's fun and wholesome, it's not wonder that Toy Story is remembered as one of Disney/Pixar's best films. The voice acting is wonderful, and even though it's over a decade old, it's still a great looking work of art. Awesome!

It gets some points for being where it all began (the franchise as well as full length 3d animated features), and it has the rivalry between Woody and Buzz going for it. Still, it's probably my least favorite of the four Toy Story movies. So kudos to Pixar!

The Toy Story movies are all guilt trips for me, I completely adored both when I was younger and it's still a favorite. It's always a hard decision picking one over the other, but I have to say that the second one's better, but this is an animated film classic itself.

Toy Story started Pixar's pioneering and unprecedented run of animated films. It's unbelievable to think that this is nearly 20 years old. It set the standard for a long time and it still convincingly holds its own alongside the flurry of 3D animated films we're bombarded with nowadays. The story telling, characters, voice work, screenplay, humour and visuals are all superb. Toy Story caters for everybody, it's loved by children and adults alike and it spawned two of the best sequels ever.

Charming, clever and inclusive. The story generates organically from the 'toys living at the edge of perception' concept, the writers skill and care allow the fantasy to be wholeheartedly embraced. The voice acting is brilliant with inspired casting choices; Allen a genuine surprise as the deluded space ranger. Newman's skewed, yet poignant score is the final sparkling jewel.

Great movie. I hadn't seen it in a long time and I barely remembered it. I knew it would be good because it's Pixar but it still managed to surprise me and make me laugh. Pixar's first feature is their undisputed magnum opus, and not just because of the revolutionary computer animation. It’s a never-diminishing wealth of comedy, imagination and attention to detail, with timeless characters voiced by perfectly-chosen actors and intelligent storytelling that deftly questions the very nature of existence and purpose.

I'll get my one gripe with Toy Story out of the way: the animation doesn't hold up that well when compared to Pixar's later work. Everything else about their first venture into filmmaking is practically flawless. The writing makes the characters compelling for kids and adults, and there's enough ageless comedy to help its cross-generational appeal. Randy Newman's score perfectly augments the film, as does the voice acting. This set the standard for one of the best-received studios in history.

While the CGI hasn't really stood the test of time, as when it came out it was earthshattering and since then Pixar has completely outdone themselves, the entertainment value is almost unparrellel. Yes, technically it's a kids movie, but anyone can enjoy this fun film. Tim Allen is in top form and probably the best he's ever been. Tom Hanks is excellent, as he usually is. Simply put it's a film.

A modern classic. On par with anything that Disney has done, ever. To date it's probably Pixar's best, although there are a few close seconds. I've read someone, somewhere, call Toy Story this generation's Snow White. That's damned lucky, because not every generation gets a Snow White. I feel quite strongly about this. Children will be watching Toy Story 50 years from now.

Groundbreaking in its use of full-CGI animation, this film is also groundbreaking in concept as a child's toys live full lives with organized societies in each bedroom. Fantastic in every way, this is why Pixar is great, they seemingly have hit a home run every time.

I have been wanting to see this movie for the last 15 years and finally got around to watching it. I should say that the animation holds great to todays standard. The story is very nice and clever. The characters are always real and the human emotions displayed by the toys are so real. I am scoring the movie on its story direction and not on the technicalities of the movie. Its a funny and original movie. Very good entertainer and a must see for all ages.

Story, the message of the film is great and that is what is missing from many modern Pixar or DreamWorks animations. By today's standards, CGI animation is a bit rough around edges but even though it was quite new thing at the time, Toy Story does not rely on CGI gimmick. Voice acting really fit the characters. Historic value is undeniable and it is still my favorite animation of this type.

Lovely and frenzy - one of the first animation features to employ a bunch of pop culture references (Woody twisting his neck like Exorcist girl, burnt toy coming out of the sand like Carrie, Platoon's soldiers) and dramatic themes (Andy has no father, is moving out, lost his two favorite toys) and genre bending (horror bits like Sid traumatized by his Freaks toys). Action set pieces are aces - gift opening, entire Sid's house section, the finale on the streets). Pixar's lighting would improve.

From Disney, the self-proclaimed First Fully Computer-Animated Feature Film: reason enough to disdain it on general principle. Reason in particular, and in plenty, is provided by the horrible forms of the figures -- closer to Puppetoons, Claymation, Gumby, Speedy Alka-Seltzer, and the Pillsbury Doughboy than to the Disney family of cartoon characters. Must we now include this with Snow White, Pinocchio, and the rest, in the studio's animation library?

I had the good fortune to rewatch this recently, and it reminds me of just how good Pixar's been, even from the get-go. It's a great adventure with sharp characters and a great mixture of humor and emotion. The cast of voices is a buffet of great talent. It isn't quite as good as its sequels, but even from their first movie Pixar produced classic movies. Also, it has probably one or two too many Randy Newman songs for my taste. Overall, one hell of a treat.

Like 2001 sat the standard for future sci-fi films, Toy Story sat the standard for all future computer animated films. It has such depth and meaning beyond the overlaying 'friends are important in life'-theme and acts a poking stick for various social behaviors that there is just no denying that Toy Story is a very important film in modern cinema. Besides that, even after all these years and development, it retains the charm it originally had and I can watch it over and over again, forever.

The film that put Pixar on the cinematic map, Toy Story showcased brilliant 3D animation that stood apart for its time though hasn't aged too well. What do you look for in a movie? Good plot -- check. Good characters -- Double check. Good script/dialogue -- Double check. Good acting -- Double check .. well, Voice Acting :) Some people are dismissive of movies because they are "cartoons" but this movie has everything a reasonable person could ask for in a film. I've seen it probably over 40 times and still laugh at loud at certain parts. Only reason it's rated under 100 is because I think the sequel is even better.

It's amazing that, in hindsight, this is the weakest of the Toy Story movies, because this is a damn good movie. One of the most revolutionary pieces of movie art turns out to be a CGI movie that was targetted mainly for kids but has plenty for watchable factors for all ages. Toy Story is the perfect animation movie with so many memorable characters, quotes, scenes and scenarios. The only flaw I have with the movie I have is an unfair one and that is the animation. Being the first Pixar, its understandable but the human animations and the animation for the dog truly looked bad at times

when Toy Story debuted in theatres. I was drawn to this film. My inner child demanded I see this. I can safely say that Toy Story is to be thanked (or blamed if you are my wife) for the spawn of my second childhood. This tale of a boy and his toys had brought back a part of my childhood that had long faded into the background of my memory. Yet, as soon as the movie started, those long forgotten memories rushed to the foreground and demanded my full attention.

Very rarely do I find a movie that I enjoyed as an adult as much as I did as a kid, perhaps even more so. While I preferred the sequel as a kid this one has more jokes (for kids AND adults) and a great rivalry between Woody and Buzz. The story, while probably not unique or original, is done really well and features a diverse, varied and funny cast of very colorful characters. The pacing never slackens either. Overall it's everything a kid's movie should be and is highly recommended for all ages.

Gee, what can you say about this animated masterpiece that hasn't been said a million times? On the blu ray, there is a supplement where the creators of toy story show you a storyboard that they originally presented to Disney of terribly unlikeable characters that Disney were just disgusted by. Seeing where it went from there is fascinating and inspirational. Iconic characters, a timeless theme of growing up, of being left behind, and a beautiful soundtrack. One of the best films of all time.

The finest Pixar film to date, Toy Story set the standard for its genre, and has only improved with age.

Friendship, loyalty, adapting in the face of change and hope. Great themes for all of us played out through the struggle of toys whose owner has outgrown them. And one of the best movie songs ever, "You've Got a Friend in Me." Also one of the best quotes from Buzz Lightyear, "Are you ... mocking me?" Not me, buddy.

Yeah, this movie is still remembered for a reason. They put in as much effort as possible to the "story" part of the title, that the technical accomplishments almost do not matter. A fantastic buddy comedy and a rather personal one to boot.

One of the first animated films I remember watching, during a phase where I'd watch movies over and over again ad nauseam. The Toy Story series holds a special place in my soul, Pixar's best series in my opinion.

One of the greats. Excellent writing, characters, voice work, the whole nine yards. There's a reason Toy Story is still considered one of the best animated films of all time, more than two decades later.

"This isn't flying, this is a falling with style" - pretty much the greatest moment in film.

The original CGI, still entertaining and heartfelt, if a little rudimentary. Launched a wonderful series that only got better.

Amazing to think the animation looks dated considering how mind blowing it was on release (see also Jurassic Park). Doesn't matter though, still one of the great family movies of all time.

Creepy, but it was a first foray into a new era of animation. Definitely a classic.
