A significant improvement over Jaglom's previous/initial effort. There is an actual, discernible story, for one thing, though there are still continuity/clarity issues. I love that this was filmed "guerrilla" style, with no permissions, and they kept getting thrown off their trains. It all goes to creating some moments of fantastic immediacy rare in movies. He originally wanted Jack Nicholson for the main role--and you'll understand why--but Dennis Hopper is excellent.
