An interesting premise that does not fully develop its racial themes, but the fact that it even addresses class at all distinguishes it from Hollywood comedies made today that outright refuse to deal with it. In that sense, it really is a comedy from a lost world, one where Murphy and Aykroyd were funny and Landis was still relevant. Despite some dead patches, which are typical of Landis' comedies, the train scene compensates, and the supporting cast holds their own against the big stars.

A pretty ordinary comedy in which everybody plays to type and there are few surprises. The concept has enough mileage but there aren't many laughs. Jamie Lee Curtis's boobs are the only reason to watch this. I never thought I'd sink that low as a film aficionado, but you just made me, John Landis.

Aykroyd, Murphy, Curtis, the baddies, etc. are all pretty likable and well cast. I just don't get it, though. I mean, people are calling it a wonderful comedy and a laugh riot, but other than Murphy at the start, it's not really funny. And for a non-American watching it in 2016, the climax of the movie might as well be them speaking in tongues. No idea how that stock market stuff works. Meh!

This hasn't aged well, and not just because Aykroyd shows up in blackface and speaking in fake patois. There is funny moments, but the film's true strength is in its socioeconomic message. Also, only one use of Eddie Murphy's laugh. That's a disgrace.

The number of boobs shown outnumbered the laughs two to one. Aykroyd can't act well enough to anchor the film and unfortunately the superb supporting cast members don't get enough screen time.

Slow and floppy to start, silly to end, but with some good laughs in between. Not among John Hughes' best and I'm not really sure why it's as highly thought of as it is. Still, worth a watch. The Christmas themes are pretty loose. Certainly a more "controversial" Christmas film than Die Hard.

Rather devoid of laughs, but easy to watch and still mostly enjoyable. Completely dated and it shows in just about every aspect of the movie. Eh, likeable charming actors and lots of topless women (including Curtis) help to round everything out.

Amusing comedy elevated by a brilliant overlooked comic performance from Aykroyd, and an equally sly supporting job by Elliott. Murphy is Murphy, but has some great moments; Bellamy and Ameche are also fine. Goes on a little long, and Landis lets his attention wander from time-to-time, but film still manages to entertain. Gotta love the drunken Santa!

Eddie does steal the show, but Aykroyd is gracious (and funny in his own right) as the straight man in this buddy comedy, and with a very likeable supporting cast, Trading Places is about as fun a two hours as one could want in a movie.

Spectacularly entertaining. Dan Ackyroyd is hilarious when he loses his job, his money, his house, and his dignity to an equally hilarious Eddie Murphy when two crusty business men toy with them. When Dan and Eddie then team up, it's for one of the most clever endings in the history of payback. Awesome!

Pretty funny, but it feels like a bunch of development of the two main characters was removed and replaced with gorilla mask hijinks. The slow pace was interesting too; it's not bad in itself, but there were times when Landis was holding on a shot longer than he needed to and I was thinking how the time could have been spent on Murphy actually learning the trade, or developing the relationship between Aykroyd and Curtis. Better than average '80s comedy, yes, but maybe that's a low bar.

Trading Places is one of my favourite comedies of all time and after so many repeated viewings it just doesn't get old. Both Aykroyd & Murphy give some of their finest performances and the chemistry between the pair is priceless. It's such a simple idea but it's interesting and there are so many loveable and memorable moments. From Aykroyd's boozy Santa stealing Salmon to Murphy's beggar pretending to be blind and have no legs, to the Gorilla scene on the train. This is absolute comedy gold.

Like many of the best comedies, this is a wacky premise anchored by two comedic greats in the lead roles. There are some lulls in the comedy and the story, but the high points are quite memorable. The whole train scene is especially great. Also, look out for an almost unrecognizable young Al Franken as one of the baggage handlers.

An Eddie Murphy classic, but one that does not come anywhere close to the heights of the "partner" film Coming to America. The scenario is implausible and the portrayals of everyone involved is so broad it's painful. Jamie Lee Curtis' pro and Eddie's growth as he gains money and prestige are the only nuance to be found in this social experiment. The rest is white people are rich and stuffy/black people are loud and poor humour. Dan Aykroyd turns in the worst acting performance of his career

Book smarts vs. street smarts. Genetics vs. environment. Aykroyd vs. Murphy. What would happen if you traded places with someone and you didn't even know it? This movie is lightning in a bottle! Pure comedic gold. It's from an era when both Aykroyd and Murphy were at the top of their game and still knew how to be funny. The movie is somewhat based on Mark Twains "The Prince and the Pauper". The movie asks the fundamental question, why are we who we are? Bottom line, who cares it's a laugh riot!
