Trancers III

It's still amateur hour, but it at least feels like there's been some attempt at directorial flair, and the story-telling is marginally improved (in the sense that you can follow along with what's going on, and there's actual character development). Still by no means a good movie, but I found it to be considerably more engaging and charming than its predecessor.

Returning somewhat to the style of the original, Trancers III once again finds the wisecracking time travelling anti-hero Jack Deth eradicating trancers with sardonic aplomb. Strangely enough, Band passed on the directorial duties to newcomer Joyner who injects some style into the film that helps disguise its budgetary limitations. But he makes the mistake of downplaying the humour in favour of a darker approach that is just not as fun as Band's eccentric installments.

The most noteworthy thing about this movie is that it's a Full Moon production that doesn't suck. Mildly diverting, too amiable to dislike... but there's just not much here

Stain pretty much says it all.

Stripped of a cast, confined to interior locations on bland sets, with muted action and trope-ier than ever story, the only thing keeping this going is love of Thomerson's wry performance and leftover good feelings for the series. If you've come this far with Trancers, go ahead and watch it. Get one more trip down the line with Jack Deth.
