Trances

A fascinating film in every respect. The narrative is uneven and the ending a tad thrown together, but there is SO MUCH to like here - including a riveting juxtaposition of a ritual slaughter and young people's rave set to the same song - that I'm afraid to set this any lower. A consummate music film.

To give you an idea of the film: consider if National Geographic did a "rockumentary" about a popular Moroccan folk quartet. I found the music interesting--almost activist poetry set to rhythmic accompaniment. At the same time, it did see a bit long for my taste.
