Solid and fun sci-fi with a deeply human core about romance, greed, and, above all, passion. The film also looks great, with an imaginative idea of the late 40s that includes flat screen TV and video conferencing. Also further proof I should never be a director, because my day one project would be to remake this-- 99% intact.

A good concept and quality technical aspects (for the times) can only carry you so far. There are some remarkably flat performances which could have been largely dealt with by cutting out about 90% of the romance. Still, considering the year this flick was made, it's an admirable glance into the future on several counts.

Yes, lets build a fancy tunnel between the US and UK! Very futuristic with televisions and cool looking tunnel trains. So the sci-fi aspect of the movie is satisfying. But the love drama took away from the coolness of it. Not that the women were not worth fighting for, but with such a fancy plot, it wasn't the melodrama I was interested in. But the acting was still quality with the main 4 (Richard Dix, Leslie Banks, Madge Evans & Helen Vinson) delivering and with many guest stars.
