There was a point about 20 minutes in when I started thinking I'd rather be watching youtube videos where 12-year old trailer-park beauty queens show me how to make anime eyes with mama's Friday-night mascara. Then the progress timer on my media software of choice started going in reverse and I began hearing the cacaphony of dead orphans reciting Enochian backwards. I now know Trash Humpers is the Devil's Dante-esque punishment for the sin of seeking out bad movies not starring Steven Segal.

If you think this movie sucks, Harmony Korine wins. If you think this movie is great, Harmony Korine wins. Maybe it makes me a jackass, but I kind of like that there's a Harmony Korine around, reminding us that adolescent wannabe transgressive trash is just as worthy of screen-time as any blockbuster?? Idk, maybe this is just stupid fun. But it's "got something" and it "has its moments". I prefer Crutchnap, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtGWZDFgsEM

Korine gives the inverse picture of American society obsessed with efficiency, being acceptable, being conformists and personable chaps. Besides, the ordinary American citizen is precisely like those guys, for the average citizen consumes and destructs the world just like them and wanders aimlessly, inventing non-sense joys for herself. These zombies are at least frank and sincere about their way of life. A great aesthetic vision in accordance with its subject. Korine is once more great!

One needs to wade through a lot of seemingly pointless unpleasantness to get to the thoughtful moments, but that's what makes those moments shine. Plus, you have to give it to Korine for remaining unrelenting in his indulgence.

Some movies sear themselves into my psyche so deeply that the mere thought of them conjures dark thoughts along the lines of a horrible memory or vivid nightmare. Trash Humpers will most likely prove to be one of those films. The sounds, the inhuman laughter, "three little devils..." Good god this movie drove me just a little bit insane. But it also showed me things I've never seen and made me feel things no other movie has made me feel. For that I give it some serious credit.

Rewatch. Liked it more. Still kind of punishing viewing, but it's... something. And has a sort of beauty to it. I get both the hate and love camps on this, but am leaning now more towards love.

Direct in it's aesthetic a la The Blair Witch Project and equally as scary. If you are familiar with Korine's work, than how this overall piece unfurls will come as little surprise, despite there being a little (horrific) surprise in every scene.

And I'm a Korine nuthugger. I admit it. I can't help it, I love what this guy does. Maybe I'll knock either this or Mister Lonely down a couple points but the fact remains, either way: this is another original movie. It's disturbing and absolutely hilarious. A dark comedy in the truest sense, with some good cinematography, of all things, thrown in for good measure.

Disturbing to the point of being almost demonic, while also having a haunting beauty. It doesn't have the emotional impact of Gummo and Julien, due to having masked freaks as characters rather than people, but it's as darkly hilarious as those works and another incredible addition to Korine's filmography.

This film has a meaning. There is a message. Watch all the artsy films, follow politics, get jaded but try to stay hopeful for the future and you will get it. I promise.

The best horror film of the decade, Korine's decrepit mode of cinéma vérité frames suburban Americana in a way that can only be described as near-demonic.

Korine's VHS absurdist comedy feels so ridiculous, funny, dizzying and dark that it gets impossible to just look away. This is not only a funny and edgy white trash, but actually more serious in its creepy songs and repulsive acts of stupidity than it appears to be.

about america, or maybe civilisation itself. also about freedom: in fact, the numerous parallels lead me to believe that this is essentially a remake of lars von trier's 'the idiots', all the way to the final scenes, which elevate this to greatness. 1200th rating.

In many ways this revisits Gummo territory. Still haphazard scenes of unnamed dimwitted weirdos raising havoc with not much of a plot to tie it together, but I felt that the tone and color here are new, and it all still works in its own right. Definitely a clearer, more distinct vision than Julien Donkey Boy. In lieu of a way to summarize it, I'll only note the horror movie vibe. This isn't horror, but Texas Chainsaw Massacre and August Underground jumped to mind.

Possibly THE funniest movie that exists. Korine bends every audience member and has his way with them. ART!!!

Korine accomplishes the impossible: he was able to make me care about the titular characters, providing an at times hilarious, and at others, terrifying experience. With almost no dialogue, characterization (other than thrust style), or plot, the viewer must fall in love with the smaller details of the film to enjoy it: the constant rhyming, the music hummed, and the loud, offensive grunts. Undoubtedly unique, Trash Humpers tells an entertaining story of freedom and shunning society; I liked it.

Harmony Korine has made a film which feels like a complete waste of time, but remains just barely intriguing enough to keep you from turning it off. My interpretation is that it's an attack against mainstream cinema audiences (trash humpers). However I prefer the idea that the tapes are a practical joke artifact to be played on the historians and film students of the future. Even though the film is utter trash with no plot, its weirdness is strangely compelling, moreso than some serious films.

This is our collective consciousness on capitalism. Would it really be so much less productive? Plus maybe a discarded toilet surrounded by gremlin chortles is art too. Where Korine started going beyond just straddling between symapthetic intrigue of the boldly clueless and gleefully destructive cultures forged by a careless world and treating them like a bit of a circus, the ugliest ghouls were surely once just like us, when life gives you trash you connect with the trash. And maybe hump it.

There's an unbearable sense of horror and virtuosism in the lonely desertic landscapes of Korine's pictures. In Trash Humpers, the filmmaker kept that up. It's a hauntingly beautiful, creative and unexpected film.

"Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers has a premise so mind-bogglingly stupid that the outcome could only be genius or daft. In a final tally, it's the latter by a long shot." - Nick Schager

I'm not even sure how to rate this 'film'. It seemed like the longest 74 minutes of my life, it was wierd enough that I didn't really want to turn it off, I had to see where it was going, and that's something, I suppose....

Probably works best if you treat it like the cinematic equivalent of a James Ferraro album. The most unfortunate thing about it is that Korine has already proven that he can do something ten times better and that this is essentially a less refined reiteration of ideas already present in Gummo. Yet somehow i found it less disappointing than Mister Lonely, probably because i expect less from Korine at this point, and at least here he's not overreaching himself.
