Disney apparently learned nothing from the failure of Titan A.E. - making expensive sci-fi animated movies aimed at teenage boys is a great way to lose millions of dollars. As for the movie itself, eh, it's fine, but every element of it was done before and better by other Disney movies. It's a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy.

Severely underrated and overlooked Disney movie. The animation and creative character design is simply splendid. As a technological twist on 'Treasure Island' it can appeal to fans of pirate stories, sci-fi, and even steam punk. The voice work is inspired & gives unique personality to all the main players in an exciting and emotional adventure tale. Disney took a gamble on this and it didn't perform well at the box office, but it has rightly developed a sizable cult following in the past decade.

I loved this! I know it isn't regarded as one of Disney's brightest moments narratively speaking or financially, but I don't know why. I loved the characters and I thought it had wicked animation and style. It's a very gorgeous movie, with some great music from James Newton Howard and a good sense of humor. I probably would have l ones this as a kid. I wish Disney would do more movies like this. Well worth a visit if you haven't seen it yet. I personally can't wait to watch it again.

Seriously underrated as far as Disney goes. People tend to forget this one, but its one that has a place in my heart. The animation is surprisingly awesome, as well as the cast. Sometimes the added songs feel unnecessary, but the score is fantastic. Not only all this, but it has a fully realized concept that makes an interesting plot. I will stand alone but this is top tier Disney.

(2014-15 Disneython #37:) Some of the imagery, such as the spaceport above Jim's home planet, is pretty damn wonderful. The Jim/Silver relationship is pretty well-drawn too. I hated all the "comedy" relief stuff though, like the alien that talked entirely in fart noises and the hyperactive Martin Short robot. Annoying stuff. Too bad, because otherwise it's not a bad film.

Except for the visuals, there really is nothing special to see here. And yet I enjoyed every last minute of it thanks to some likeable characters, a pace that never feels rushed or drawn-out and a soundtrack that just fits. It certainly doesn't set new milestones, but if one of the trailers manages to intriguing you, it might be well worth the watch.

Arguably the best Disney film ever produced with an intuitive and futuristic twist on the classic book "Treasure Island." Jim Hawkins, the young boy who has always dreamed of becoming a pirate and searching for the infamous Flint's Trove treasure and finally gets his chance. We follow him hrough his journey, meeting many interesting characters and enduring some hard emotional scenes. Soundtrack is superb as well as the morals in the end. Timelss movies that needs revisiting again and again.

Generally considered to be one of the worst Disney animated films, which surprised me, since it might actually be one of my favourites. Beautiful steam-punk visuals, some well-formed characters and relationships between them, and maybe the best Disney villain ever. Despite being familiar with the original story, the twists still somehow took me by surprise in one of the least-formulaic Disney films. Definitely an under-rated film worth a look.

Treasure Planet is as sincere as it gets but that's all it is. It is not of low quality, it is just so mediocre that it is completely unmemorable. I've recommended much worse films than this but this almost isn't even worth watching apart from some decent animation and visuals.

Unfairly squashed by Disney's marketing and release scheduling, Treasure Planet has fallen into the shadows, widely forgotten. It deserves a resurgence—a mass re-evaluation, because this is a joy; a true adventure brimming with passion and ambition. It's a bigger spectacle than Atlantis, or hell even half the company's renaissance entries. Find me a Disney flick with a more complex and interesting hero/villain relationship, or a more staggering blend of art forms.

Futuristic version of Treasure Island. Not quite typical Disney animation - does not have much of singing, falling in love and even the pirate Silver is not endlessly bad person. Enjoyable!

With stunning visuals and a surprisingly witty script, there's not too much to complain about. To my surprise, I ended up really loving this movie! I thought the story was fairly relatable and original, maybe not relatable to me personally, but relatable nonetheless. Some of the humor fell flat at moments, but I was never bored and found myself pretty entertained. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's a fan of animation and/or Disney!

This film contains some of the best blending of 2D and 3D animation I've ever seen. They do a great job of filling it with eye candy and keeping it from looking conspicuous. The animation is beautiful and the plot is solid. It's not a great movie and it features one of the most annoying characters of all time but it's pretty much alright.

I love this movie. But then again, I'm extremely biased since I'm an animator and I love air pirates. The story isn't great, the 2D and 3D are not seamlessly integrated, but this movie receives more recognition that it gets, even if just for the animation and character design.

Tired archetypes, dated CG backgrounds, unnecessary anthropomophism, and the last gasp of the '90s EXTREEEEEEME aesthetic. The rest is nice, I guess. Still, if I ran a studio that put out stuff like this, I'd probably shut down my hand-drawn animation division too.

It is pretty decent considering I had low expectations going into it but it doesn't have much to offer either. There is a lot of promise at the start in terms of characterization and ways in which the plot could unfold but it is instead steered into a more cliched and recycled direction. Enjoyable despite the many flaws and the animation is easy on the eyes (a little too much CGI though).

This was alright. Not necessarily a bad idea for a film. It just didn't bring anything new. It was just full of all the usual Disney tropes and characters and all that. Coupled with my (small, but sufficient) knowledge of the original story, this made for a pretty predictable viewing. It also had that awkward mix of 2D and 3D animation. I liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the main character. So, yeah, not bad or anything. Just nothing special.

the space stuff was downright condescending, and most of the other stuff trying to be hip was mindblowingly out of touch. That being said, the father-son dynamic between Hawkins and the interestingly cybernetic John Silver is actually pretty good, and some of the relatively more in-touch DIsney has been with family relations.

Shockingly faithful to the book, given that it changed the entire genre and moved the story approximately a millennium into the future. Which is actually one of the weirder parts of the movie, and sort of distracts from the plot. There's nothing really spectacular at any point, but it did earn some bonus points for the well-played Star Trek reference.

Very, very middle of the road for Disney. It's not bad, but it doesn't ever come close to spectacular. It's a hard concept to sell, "Treasure Island" in space, and they did make it work somewhat well here. The CGI was really conspicuous, almost distractingly so. I enjoyed Long John Silver's character very much (I'm crazy for morally ambiguous characters).

A decent movies with some interesting visuals and characters. I'm not familiar with the story of Treasure Island, so its story was newer to me than it was to some people. It had some annoying parts, like a pretty lame song during its big montage, and the damaged robot was pretty annoying. The main character also started out as a pretty standard character, although he did get better.

I want to like this a lot more, as there are some stunning visual elements and many of the characters are quite likable. Sadly, the screenplay is clunky and glosses over some of the finer points of the story (such as the burgeoning friendship between Jim Hawkins and John Silver, which is COMPLETELY skipped over in a rushed-feeling musical montage). It could have been so much better, particularly with the interesting visuals, but it falls just short. Watch the Muppets' version instead.

A Musker and Clements film for "boys." Compared to their previous work, this is a rousing adventure with no songs (expect a horrible Goo Goo Dolls ballad) and lots of swashbuckling. Some of it works and some of the visuals are quite dazzling. Other things feel like things we've seen before.

Straight from the heart of one of Disney’s periodic lulls, this feels like a rushed, direct to video effort much of the time; though the animation is beautiful, especially in its mix of retro pirate ships and futuristic designs, the characters (and screenplay) feel like warmed over rehashes of Disney’s greatest hits, and represent a definite step back from the killer 90s run. An A-grade voice cast are left surprisingly listless, though Pierce’s Niles Crane-like vocal stylings are always welcome.
