I don't think I've ever seen a film that portrays a child's perspective of an adult world so well.

A poignant little drama that neatly captures the perceptive nature of two young children and the pragmatic way they adapt to different environments, both good and bad. The lack of a musical score and the naturalistic, unobtrusive camerawork help add to the sense of realism... although I had an odd moment of cognitive dissonance towards the end when I realised the kids were singing "Nature Anthem" by American indie band Grandaddy (one of my favourites) - they must be big in Korea!

So Yong Kim, who wrote and directed this film, gives us a powerfully moving snapshot of a chapter in two very young girls lives.Using an unobtrusive style she draws us into these kids world and show's us there perspective and how they face the pain of there mother leaving and there Aunt's inability to care for them properly. When they are shipped off to there Grandparents the Grandmother with a simple grace gets them to open up to the possibility of love and kindness.A great film that I loved.

A grower; one that continued its effect long after the end. Humbly evocative of a certain time in life and sense of detachment that comes close to being overwhelming.

The film is decent but failed to really hook me. The girls did well enough but not enough time was sent with them before jumping to the next scene. The movie is very similar to Nobody Knows but not as good.

Top badass moment? And I thought South Korea was all superfast Internet and American troops. I’ll admit it’s hard to be mean about something so worthy, but... well... this film… it’s boring. Adults lack emotional intelligence and Boris Johnson the truth, kids get confused. And I'm sorry, but the promising fiscal management displayed shouldn't obscure the fact that a pile of dirt isn't a mountain, especially if you’re surrounded by real ones COVERED in trees. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

"A work of tremendous poise and poignancy that assumes and articulates the perspective and emotional tenor of its two juvenile protagonists." - Nick Schager

A quiet but powerful drama about two girls waiting for their mother to return to them.
