Ignoring the many changes to the plot, which is fine as artistic liberty, I found this one of the most beautiful films I have seen in a very long time. Nearly every sentence has such a resonance that gives it the quality of a classic and timeless quote. However it loses minimal marks for including the poetry(although the best) of Donne and Shakespeare in what I assumed to be the 12th century and the fact that the characters sometimes seem to change their priorities, but that makes the story.

Tristan & Isolde isn't an epic action film set in the 5th century, but it is a solid romance film with betrayal, suspense and some thrills. It keeps the audience involved, which will allow you to overlook some of its flaws, like how the characters' actions don't make logical sense, or how easily all of the drama could have been avoided altogether. You get caught up in the story, and while it isn't a great film, you could do a whole lot worse.

A solid epic romance that should go down well for viewers, both male and female, that like a good tale of valor and love with dire consequences, both romantic and tragic in scope.

Guys, here's a good movie to rent for a date night. The ladies get a nice strong love story, while the guys get some solid medieval combat. It's a good balance and well executed with a good story and visuals. Wasn't huge on the main male lead, he just comes off as a whiny whelp most of the time.

One of the best romantic medieval love story I've seen in long time. Suitable for a girlfriend and his boyfriend as well. Story mixes Romeo and Juliet as well as A Little Mermaid themes nicely. Maybe a bit longish. Sophia Myles and Bronagh Gallagher were good choises on their roles.

An epic tale of star-crossed lovers. The original Romeo and Juliet don't disappoint, they just drag a little.

Flawed but decent medieval epic that looks nice. Sewell, Franco, and especially Sophia Myles, are all good.

If William Shakespeare had come to life and directed a film, I believe this would be it.

Nice, but in that swoony romantic drama kind of way. The script/acting/cinematography weren't anything to write home about but it was a pleasant enough tear jerker kind of thing (if thats possible)

Handsomely crafted epic is unexpectedly pensive and thoughtful, however there’s not a great deal here to be pensive and thoughtful about: what starts as a gripping historical actioner becomes bogged down once the focus shifts to the titular love affair, which is really more of a lurid bodice ripper and needed more of a knowing melodramatic touch to work; as it is, the mid-section tends to plod when it should be boiling. The performers compensate somewhat with Sewell and Strong especially good.

Good medieval story, does not insult anyone. But it is too long and acting is generally non-interesting. Good for rainy TV evening.

Not exactly bad, but the whole thing seems bloodless, the exception being powerhouses Rufus Sewell and Mark Strong. And crucially, Franco is just wrong for this part, playing Tristan as a pouty-lipped cocky high schooler struggling with the accent.

Not bad if you're romantic type, I guess. Average acting at best with some real bad ones such as H. Cavill, who pretty much sucks wherever I have misfortune to see him. I couldn't find neither anything terribly wrong nor awesome with this movie. I was also expecting more 'medieval' phrases than just 'yearn' and few lines of poetry.

Actually we rented this movie with the intention of laughing at how bad it was, but honestly? It disappointed in that department. This movie is actually better than what was expected. I think the poignant storyline rescues what otherwise what might have been another run of the mill Romeo & Julietesque love story.

Kinda bipolar; starts as more of a medieval warfare and politicking thing before giving way to a long long stretch of melodrama and star crossed romance and secret affairs. Still though I always kinda enjoy Kevin Reynolds’ medieval movie style. This movie coulda used some BOOOOBS, dawg

Hate the ending. This is more about romance and betrayal than actual action/adventure. The character's don't make any sense in their actions, and honestly, it's ok.

Sophia Myles's performance was especially compelling. She and James Franco were convincing as tragically misfortunate lovers. Franco's performance was uneven. The settings, story and action were entertaining and engaging. A quality production with good visuals and music. Also some good medieval war action & pageantry with several memorable scenes. The story of intrigue, loyalty, romance, treachery, gallantry and a heavy dose of betrayal and sadness. Exciting, entertaining and unpredictable.
