Never been a fan of the shakycam Blair Witch/Cloverfield style but Trolljegeren does it with genuine humour and some clever satire. The way it turns everyday occurrences and existing landscape features into signs of troll infestation is quite amusing. The trolls themselves are fantastic creations and the gorgeous shots of Norway's countryside had me pining for the fjords. One of the best low-budget films I've seen this year.

This movies isn't awesome. It's Norsesome! Initially I couldn't stop comparing it to 'Cloverfield', but thankfully it thoroughly excels the mediocracy of the latter. If you're christian and contemplating a trip to the norwegian mountainside this summer, maybe think again. Or bring a proper flashlight.

It's like a Norwegian Blair Witch Project, really. There are some pretty locales, the mountains and forests are terrific, but the pacing is off, the trolls don't look that menacing, and the documentary style is not wholly consistent in its effectiveness. It's worth a watch because it's about fucking troll hunting in the gorgeous Norwegian wilderness, but it's not that fun, scary, or artistic.

Incredibly hilarious! The movie has just enough seriousness, craziness and comedy and it all balanced out the way Blairwitch project never did. It doesn't try to tell you anything, it's just a very funny troll ride through the beautiful Norway, running away from trolls and paralyzing them in the company of an epic protagonist. Awesome!

A brilliant concept marred by a horribly executed "lost footage" approach, complete with "is it on?" remarks, and let's-turn-the-camera-on-and-go-stand-in-front-of-it-in-this-moment-of-distress. That said, the idea is a wonderful one, and the design of the trolls will ensure that any scene featuring them will not disappoint.

During the first half the great one-liners just won't seem to stop coming in Trolljegeren. From then on it gets a bit trivial and looses it's drive, but that doesn't matter as long you're with Hans the Trollhunter who earns a place in filmhistory alongside all the greatest slayers. Nevermind the plot holes or the unanswered questions cause it's a movie about f-ing giant trolls and I to want to fight for the rights of the Troll hunters. Give them better working conditions and a better pay!

I love the premise and every aspect of the visual design. Localized, folk-tale horror is a great idea and Troll Hunter's trolls have an authentic feel to them. The good acting of the guy who plays the hunter also helps. However, there are too many plot holes, the trolls' anti-Christian thing is unconvincing, and the first-person filming style was definitely a mistake. It is limiting, its novelty wore off years ago and the shakiness in action scenes has gotten really annoying by 2010.

Anytime a goat/sheep is used to lure a monster I crack up relentlessly. It's one of my favorite examples of dramatic irony. The audience knows the goat is going to die a horrific death, but the goat continues bleating, completely clueless about its fate. Note: several cues, the goat included, are taken from Jurassic Park. So if you're looking for an alternative to Jurassic Park, this might be your best bet.

Hans ain't nuttin ta fuck wit. This is a great movie. I like that mockumentary style, though it didn't stick quite as true to it as some movies in the same style. Still, I'm a sucker for it. Good acting, a good story with good visuals. There are some real, dare I praise it this much, iconic shots here, like Hans starin' down the troll near the end, the camera showing it from a distance. Really liked that shot.

It was only a matter of time until trolling got its own movie. I was really quite surprised at how incredibly well-made "Troll Hunter" is. Sure, the CGI isn't that great but some of the shots are incredible and the scenery is pretty breathtaking. I was also surprised at how boring it turned out to be. I've never been a fan of the whole "found footage" thing but although this did it better than most, its pacing and humor are far too erratic. Jespersen and the trolls are fantastic.

The film knows it's kind of silly, and they play off that well while also creating some tension, though no scares, and the "world-building," for lack of a better word, is pretty good. However, the film never elaborates enough on the concepts therein to bring them into full concrescence just kind of...stops at the end? Good use of a novel idea, and fun, but too flat to rise into greatness.

A clever film in many ways, from the creative use of pre-existing scenery and witty script to the undercurrent of satire regarding bureaucracy, the government and management of rural areas. It's plain to see it was a really thoughtful production. Thankfully it's an entertaining one too with a great lore and a surprisingly likeable character in the form of the Troll Hunter himself.

Except for the implied tragic ending, this is actually a Comedy. Basically, it's a bunch of people driving around pretty Norwegian countryside doing improv comedy routines about trolls; on occasion, cg troll scenarios happen. That's about the gist of it. Yeah, the suspense ratchets up during the troll scenes, but the rest of the enjoyment comes from the dry riffing and kneeslappingly serious expository lectures about the natural history of trolls. (c'mon, guys, trolls are funny)

A film about Troll hunting is unlikely to be taken seriously by the audience, but the makers have appreciated that and mirrored that natural skepticism with the "jokey dismissal" by the camera team. But they have balanced it beautifully with the seriousnesss of the TH himself. This is SO much better than Blair Witch, which tried to force "scares" on the watcher. TH allows the watcher to decide his own feelings; I loved the humour, absurdity, scenery, and undercurrent of political shenanigans !!

Dry humor, solid sfx, a great performance by the 'hunter,' and fun explanations for what is happening all make this film quite the ride. My one beef would be how the students reacted after the mine incident...unless that is how Norwegians normally deal with crises...

So Blair Witch meets Norwegian superstition and it works surprisingly well; this is a very clean and crisp mockumentary, thorough and well-done. It doesn't overdo its drawing point; the depiction of trolls in the deep Norwegian forests. It has a very interesting focal character in Hans and his relationship to his work and superiors, played delightfully by Otto Jespersen. A bit rushed and forced at times, it still catches the attention and imagination. Plus, Hans is a manly man.

The "found footage" genre is getting tired, yet this Norwegian film manages to inject new energy into it. They even manage to squeeze in a little morality into the affair. One sequence even has the visceral punch of the Jurassic Park T-Rex scene. Even better if you're familiar with the culture of mythology which permeates the entire film. Good show!

The Troll Hunter is presented in found footage style, but oddly never uses it to it's advantage. There isn't any part of this film that required it to be found footage. A funny film in it's own right, but odd choices were made.

Sort of seemed like a parody of itself, and there were some funny parts. I would not have watched this myself but my move-watching partner suggested it, and I got through it. Uses the "found footage" gimmick to tell the story of a group of Norwegian film students trailing who they think is a bear poacher, only to discover he is a government agent tasked with exterminating rogue trolls. Leisurely paced but never boring, the action picks up in the second half once they start actively pursuing the trolls. Some nifty creature designs, decent looking CGI, and some genuinely breathtaking Scandinavian landscapes. Could've used some more gore, though.

Rife with the more annoying tendencies of found footage films, such as way too many clips of people fiddling with the camera when nothing's happening and excessive editing. This doesn't stay much of a problem, though, once we're introduced to the troll hunter, who is compelling and wonderfully acted by Otto Jespersen. Unfortunately the rest of the characters are as thin as paper and the ending is a bit of a let down, but this remains an interesting watch.

It's a fun premise, but apart from the first 20-25 minutes and a couple of twists on the "smelling a Christian" thing Troll Hunter really does not build on it. The non-existent characters means everything comes to rely on the CGI trolls, and by the last half hour it's tired itself out completely.

It's clever, funny, and involving - a fantastic showpiece for Norwegian cinema and I do recommend you see it. But here's the thing... having seen it once I find I've no real need to return to it. The gentle pace through the incredible Norwegian countryside might be considered "slow" on a second viewing and although the film hints that it has something important to say to us about the environment, or loneliness, it never quite gets round to it.

A pretty hokey Blair Witch-type movie. I will admit the Trolls were very well designed and a lot of thought went into the Troll lore such as why they turn to stone or explode when they are hit by sunlight. There is more comedy in this than horror and boy do they leave some important information out like why believing in God makes your blood extra tasty. Also a friend is lost later in the film and they replace him pretty quickly without really looking back. A lot of big plot holes but kinda fun.

The 'found footage' nature of it is a drag (featuring all the nonsense usually associated with that style of film-making), and the plotting is a bit of a mess. Still as a whole the film is fun, with the film being at its best when it is at its most dryly comedic.

One of the better found footage films. The trolls are an excellent idea, that I'm surprised haven't been more exploited in other movies. The journey through Norway is great, and the cave scene is a highlight. Overall, it's pretty funny and thrilling (although scary would be a stretch). That being said, I'm beginning to conclude that the found footage genre is just an inherently bad idea. The cinematography of college students running away from things leaves much to be desired.

A hit-and-miss effort which has boring stretches as well as some thrills. These occur when the CGI is (t)rolled out and we get to see just how much a low-budget visual effects team can achieve these days. Overall, the film suffers from its fake documentary style, because it neither fascinates like a true doc can, nor shocks us like a proper scary movie. It does end on a high though, and among found footage films, ranks similar to Blair Witch Project, but not as highly as Cloverfield or Rec.

It's filmed in the fake student-made documentary style that Blair Witch made popular, but it does almost everything better. The trolls look great, the cinematography is breathtaking, and the acting is solid by all the main players. A few scenes may stretch a bit long, but the payoffs always make those extended 'running through the woods while the shaky camera is not filming anything except treetops' scenes forgivable. Very much worth the watch.

I have to give them points for sticking with really fairy-tale-esque trolls, not trying to give them some kind of gritty modern reboot that reveals that all of the old stories had it wrong (like how vampire novels just love to keep re-inventing the monster). The humor is very tongue-in-cheek, and there are some really spectacular special effects. Despite the "amateur filmmakers" style, it doesn't suffer from shaky cams that never really show anything, unlike Blair Witch or Cloverfield.
