True Colors

Cusack gives us a nice depiction of a sociopath politician; maybe not Gyllenhall's Nightwatch psycho level; but maybe even more dangerous. The friendship/enmity between Cusack and Spader is well developed and story has a nice cadence to it; not a bad movie.

I agree with Cusack - Widmark hit the shit out of that ball

Widmark, the old pro in the cast, totally steals this movie. Everything else is "respectable" but just not that exciting

The "friendship" between Spader and Cusack is what makes this early 90s political drama worth watching. In a sort of role reversal, Spader plays the moral center while Cusack goes off the rails. He also goes a bit off the rails with his performances as it tends to be quite big. The plot is nothing memorable and probably any everyday occurrence in the life and times we live in.
