The first act was pure fantasy, the second made for a decent crime buildup, and the final was better than I'd feared. I'm glad the fantasy girl turned out to be a hooker, though GFTO with that "I'm still pure" fanservice. I don't understand Slater's imaginary Elvis so I'm glad he wasn't prominently featured. Arquette's boobs, on the other hand, deserve billing. Fav scene: Arquette fighting in the hotel room and delightfully laughing while smacking someone with a toilet cover.

Even though Reservoir Dogs came out earlier, this was the film that showed you what Tarantino was capable of. He wrote a script full of wish fulfillment, where a hyper knowledgeable nerd who loves comic books & Elvis thrives in Hollywood by being smarter than everyone else. Everything was midwifed by Tony Scott's kinetic camera work and over-the-top editing which built on the quieter influence of Terrence Malick's Badlands. The perfect action movie for nerdy teenage boys who like action movies.

This was great! True Romance has the right directing and writing to make it seem like a solid romantic crime movie. Tarantino's screenplay is as awesome as usual, and I would like to have seen his directing for it too. Still, Tony Scott's directing made it seem fitting regardless. Slater is actually pretty good and the supporting cast was solid too. Brad Pitt was hilarious, and I thought Zimmer's score was great for the movie too, which isn't surprising. Get out there and see it nerds.

Slater's miscast (too good-looking), but he's a solid actor & has the Nicholson eyebrows to pull off crazy. Arquette's great. Tarantino's script is filtered through Tony Scott, but fortunately that just means that Scott keeps things moving briskly. The slower arthouse pacing & self-indulgent refusal to edit any of his dialogue or tangential storylines QT was prone to between Pulp & Basterds is thankfully gone. The unforgettable monologues, crackling dialogue & memorably amusing reprobates remain

Two mentally deficient people find each other, and after one night together, get married. This movie actually makes a mockery of true romance. The message of the movie is more like "love justifies murder" or possibly "the ends justify the means". A decent script really tries to fix the horrible, over the top, plot. Good cast with some decent performances. The story was filled with violence and stupidity, but some of it was quite riveting and memorable.

A prime example of a supporting cast well and truly making the movie. Walken, Oldman, Hopper, Pitt, Gandolfini: all absolutely amazing. Slater & Arquette? Eh, not so much. Extremely solid script, as is to be expected. I love that two minutes in and you can easily tell it's a Tarantino penned screenplay. "Don't condescend me, man. I'll fuckin' kill you, maaan."

While Slater and Arquette are fine as the leads, the supporting cast of dark and seedy characters is incredible- Oldman, Hopper, and Walken are the standouts, but Pitt, Penn & Sizemore, and the others, even Pinchot, make this a pleasure to watch. The elaborate finale is also quite well done.

Tony gives high-concept vision to Tarantino's teenage dream about a comic book guy who meets his true love in a movie theater and finds himself in a bloody crime story. Superb cast, with scenes that go on as long as they have to -- you know, this is pure Tarantino -- and Tony's style all the way -- the sunset, the colorful clothes, the sunglasses, the fast editing, the final shooting, which is even better than that great one in Enemy of the state. And, of course, that hilarious cocaine facial.

Never before has my jaw dropped during the opening credits of a movie. Damn, what a cast. Walker and Hopper (heh) are great, Sizemore's enthusiasm is contagious, Oldman is just incredible. The leads are fine. Still, having been told that this is one of the best film of all time, I was slightly disappointed. Didn't feel any sort of emotion for any of the characters toward the end of the film, for one. But as far as popcorn flicks with a good pace and awesome lines go, it's definitely top tier.

True Romance is one of funnest crime drama's of the 90's and a masterful collaboration of Tony Scott's direction & Quentin Tarantion's screenplay. The screenplay inparticular is brilliant and there's countless spectacular scenes of dialogue tennis between stars. The cast is one of my favourites also with great performances from Slater, Arquette, Penn, Sizemore, Oldman, Rubinek, Gadolfini, Kilmer, Jackson & Pitt. I wish there were more of this, A Tarantino script directed by another competent director. Scott blunted the obsessive parts of the Tarantino stories and add a bit more humanity than they normally have. Tarantino provided his standard rich set of characters (Oldman's is the one which shined) and the story moves like a nice trip down a river, sometimes calm and seen, sometimes rapid and with waterfalls.

Influenced by "Bonnie and Clyde", "Badlands" and "Wild at Heart", "True Romance" works both as a loving homage to these films and as a serviceable crime story on its own. The script is actually middlebrow as far as Tarantino goes (which means it's pretty damn good) and, although there are a couple of unforgettable sequences (the Walken/Hooper showdown), the overall film lacks the thrills and ingenuity of, say, "Reservoir Dogs" -maybe Scott's flat visual style has something to do with that too.

The ultimate outsider love story of the 90s, dripping with style & spunk as one would expect from a Tarantino script. Slater is solid & Arquette in particular is outstanding, and there's a wonderful supporting cast of known stars. It's sexy & violent, self-indulgent (a bit much in places), and there's tons of memorable dialogue. The direction is good, not perfect. It's also Act 2 in Tarantino's career-long overuse of the "n-word," but different audiences will have different feelings about that.

It's shallower than a puddle, there's way too much affected coolness and many of the characters get pretty annoying after a while (including Slater and Arquette's), but the film had my attention till the credits rolled. Perfect example of how important script is for movie. Right away, you can tell it is Tarantino film; all of his trademarks are here. Although I have seen most of other Tony Scott films, I would not be able to identify him as a director. Of course, soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and cheap ending is something Tarantino would have never used if he were a director. Still, it is a great movie with plenty of movie-geekness, a dream cast of the 90's and a few unforgettable dialogs.

"You're part eggplant!" Stupid, non-visionary Tony Scott had to linearize Tarantino's classic time manoeuvres trademark but this film is still satisfactory to watch, with memorable, brilliantly unorthodox and crudely sophisticated dialogue (true Quentin), your daily dose of violence and diverse characters you identify and care for, it never feels cheesy claptrap and instead becomes truly entertaining. I feel for you, Clarence. I'd fuck Elvis, too.

A fantastic ride of a movie. It has everything you expect and love from a Tarantino story - a colorful cast of characters, jarring episodes of violence and cruelty, and lots and lots of pop culture banter - and adds to that a genuine love story which is startling once you realize it came from the same pen. You could see this film for its Tarantino script, witty and bloody; you could see it for the scene of comic obscenities between Walken and Hopper; you could see it for Slater's Elvis fan, and the riffs thereby; but the best reason is the scene in which Gandolfini kills Arquette (or does he?). Giggling like a girl, as he begins beating her to death, he is moved by her moxie to give her a fighting chance. What transpires is a visceral scene of unexpected power.

I take it that the title is ironic, since this is the most false, nerd-phantasy "romance" I've ever seen on screen.
