Tudor Rose

Tudor Rose

1936
Drama, History
A dramatization of Lady Jane Grey's short life, from her forced marriage (which she resisted) to her brief reign as monarch of England and finally to her beheading. The film portrays her as an innocent set up for the slaughter while the scheming courtiers and pretenders to the throne barely pay her mind, as they stab each other in the back in their attempts to gain power and influence. Fairly ambitious historic picture as Lady Jane Grey gets her story filmed for the first time in the sound era. Rooted a little heavy on the acting, floating around as bit of a bore while the royal family politics are set into action. Never any major emotional peaks in it's toned down melodrama. This also requires some historic knowledge by the viewer, but there is a certain respect in ho they approach this and it is a solid made movie. Though hardly a movie that'll leave a lasting impression.
