Tumbledown

Knocked it down a notch for the ending, but well worth watching in any case.

Rebecca Hall is gorgeous and gave a mesmerizing performance. Her character is enchanting, engaging & interesting. On the other hand, Jason Sudeikis's character took a little getting used to. They made an entertaining duo. The story is very well written, with equal parts sadness, hope, humor & serious reflection. The writing was smart & insightful. Excellent production quality, sound & music. A few beautifully filmed natural scenes & vistas. The characters felt genuine.

Pretty standard fare. Good cast, average story. Worth a look if you're looking for something light.

Although its won't-they-will-they romantic subplot is a little too predictable, I really enjoyed the rest of Tumbledown, particularly its backcountry aesthetic, Rebecca Hall's stubborn performance and the moving depiction of grief and remembrance. That stone cabin of hers looked so cozy with its roaring fireplace. I bet a writer could get settled into a seriously productive groove in there. And the little town bookshop. So quaint. Basically I just like films about damaged, sexy hermits. Sue me!

If you're looking for romance at the movies, try Tumbledown. It's a love story between a man, a woman and a ghost.

A consistently surprising and interesting film gets swallowed by a completely out of character predictable and uninteresting conclusion. Bizarre.

A fine indie drama that absolutely drips in hipster energy, both positive & negative, but which also features great performances from a loaded cast of largely underappreciated actors like Griffine Dunne, Blythe Danner, Dianna Agron, & everybody's favorite actor's actor Rebecca Hall. Jason Sudeikis is also there, doing a real good job as well, but I feel like everybody kinda knows by now that he's good. The story is a bit stretched thin & the romance a bit hard to buy, but it's pretty solid.

Fine drama and all, but I couldn't help feel it was a little pointless once it was over....
