I like Tom Hanks and I like dogs, so this film is right up my alley. Features a lot of Tom Hanks doing his high-pitched yell. It needed more shots of Hanks in his underwear.

Well... It did spawn the peculiar sub-genre called 'Beastiality Bromance'.

That is one slobbery mutt. And yes, I am talking about Craig T. Nelson.

The delightful charms of Tom Hanks and "Hooch" helped make their particular brand of odd couple buddy cop-dog partnerships, the better of the 1989 twin buddy cop-dog films, and arguably the most popular film in the sub-genre. While the premise and story are ultimately pretty simple/generic, the whole thing is just a lot tighter than its "K-9" counterpart. The Disney doggy schmaltz plays well with a the charms of a young Tom Hanks, and the heaping helping of Hanks' taint didn't hurt either.

Better than K9 or whatever the other 1989 cop/dog movie was. Still not an amazing film by any means, but it's one you have to watch to make up your mind on, I guess, since some people like this sort of thing.

"Black and white guy buddy cop movies are so 1982. We need to spice it up with a more extreme dynamic." "What about a guy and a dog buddy cop movie?" "Fucking brilliant." Luckily for the producers, Tom Hanks was good enough to make this decent in spite of the dumb high concept.

Another 80's feel good movie thats stuffed with clichés. Girl meets boy, boy meets dog. Really pathetic!

About as likable as any movie with an actual dog as a co-star will ever be. The charm of Hanks absolutely helps, along with the choice of dog breed. The development of their relationship is fairly predictable yet seems pretty realistic. The story is typical throw away 80s/90s cop movie fare and the dog becomes ultra-intelligent in the end but it's fine.

Who would have thought a dog and Tom Hanks would have on screen chemistry? Well, they achieve it here with humerous success.

It's very early and very classic Tom Hanks. There are a lot of aspects about this movie that if handled the wrong way, it could have ended up much more flat and cliched. (see: K9 w/James Belushi)

Even in movie about a pet police-detective pooch, Hanks still manages to pull off a good movie. How does he do it?

Fun. Somewhat better than K-9. The 80s was the only decade when they could make cop dramedies plus dog and sort of get away with it.

Not as bad as people would have you believe. It's a family movie and a bit of fun. Great dog, Tom Hanks isn't bad and a reasonable storyline. It won't set the world alight but you may feel the odd tear welling up at times.

Why it gotta be Turner & Hooch? Why ain't it Turner & Sutton? Maybe if you'd spent more time working with your partner and less time sexing up the vet (Tom Hanks, you adorable rascal), the dog wouldn't have had to die.

A classic example of the sort of lame movie Hanks was stuck doing for years back in the '80s before he came to be regarded as the new James Stewart. You just can't do ANYTHING with a premise like this, but Hanks has one good moment when he interrogates a clerk

You watch this movie, and you think, "Wow, Tom Hanks' career really has taken off since". And then you see THE DA VINCI CODE, and you think "No, no it hasn't". It's a dumb, funny movie that gets pretty intense near the end.

Oh you crazy 80s and your cop and dog team stories that gave my childhood-me a completely wrong idea of how to raise your dog! Seriously, I loved this movie as a kid. And should've left it at that - watching it as a grown up made me wonder about a whole lot of things, like my taste...

Upon my fourth attempt at watching, my realisation of Tom Hanks sucking off a dog wasn't what I thought the family friendly film would be when I decided to show my girlfriend.
