Two People is set in contemporary Stockholm. From a montage of newspaper headlines and close-ups of chemical instruments we learn that a young researcher, Arne Lundell, has been accused of plagiarising an older rival, Professor Sander. The rest of the film takes place in Lundell's apartment; he and his wife, Marianne, are the only characters. (carlthdreyer.dk)

Duas pessoas estreava há 75 anos na Suécia. Deu duro? Tome um Dreyer. Desce macio e reanima. Digamos que seja um acinte o Dreyer ter renegado esse filme. Potente é a palavra. DVDRip no MakingOff.

As a dialogue-driven drama consisting primarily of two-shots, Two People anticipates Gertrud, and builds on Dreyer's dramaturgical and cinematographical strengths. As a one-location mystery involving only two characters (pretty much), it begs (favorable!) comparison with some of Hitchcock's chamber films. It is largely forgotten, mostly because the director disowned it - it is said that he was unhappy with the casting - but Dreyer was a notorious perfectionist, and it's really not bad.

Legendary Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer takes a gig in Sweden for a film he would regret doing. I liked the concept. It's just two actors. A married couple, and how they react to a foe dying. Very simple set-up. Hell, even the actors weren't anything special. But the allure of this experiment had me. Två människor [Two people] (1945) is not going to rank-up to Dreyer's masterpieces, but it's very much something different and I really appreciated the approach he took.
