Twilight (A Quarantine)

Beautiful cinematography - the colours are so rich. They remind me of David Lynch's (think Blue Velvet, The Inland Empire). Or Lynch's colours remind of Duelle's. Anyway, a treat for the eyes!

Is "bad acting" part of this experiment?

A challenging film... too challenging for me? That day at least. Bulle Ogier is always an engaging screen presence but this experimental (?) story was just a bit too abstract for me to enjoy.

Some of the distinctive experimental flair of ‘Out 1’ is clearly evident in this story of the daughter of the Moon and the daughter of the Sun and their encounters with mortals. But on this occasion the fantasy is more extreme; to explore the illusion of reality/reality of illusion. The ease with which Lucie the human eventually defeats the two divine queens (Leni and Viva) is a powerful commentary on the desire and capability of humans to ‘rise’ when it is likely easier to ‘fall’.

I love this film almost as much as Celine et Julie. Hypnotic cinematography mixed with shades of mystery, fantasy, and film noir. If you like arthouse films you owe it to yourself to watch Duelle.
