Two-Bit Waltz

Basically exactly what you'd expect from a quirky faux-Wes Anderson coming-of-age comedy written, directed, and starring David Mamet's daughter and cast with a bunch of his regular actors. Which is to say, it's pretty much insufferable but also kind of endearing the same way 20-year-old girls who try way too hard are endearing for twee-leaning, sentimental histerish guys like me (it helps that it was made by an actual 20-year old girl, who at least has more of an excuse than say, Miranda July.)

This movie wears out it's quirky charm. At first, the teenage protagonist seems to be interesting and unique, but the plot and the characters become increasingly more annoying. It has a few clever moments, but too much of it was pretentious or stupid. The plot and random events are almost as unsatisfying as the characters. The frequent scenes about her imagination are the most annoying and the worst handled. It does however capture some rarely seen elements of teenage angst.
