Very inconsistent in its quality and humor, but the best bits are really memorable. Worth at least one watch for fans of Weird Al or stupid humor in general. "Supplies!"

When I saw this as a kid I thought it was hilarious, and the idea of creating your own entertainment has stuck with me since. Guess that's how I ended up doing a local radio show with some mates for a few years with sketches and parody songs and crap. Anyhoo, UHF nowadays feels like a tonally inconsistent mishmash. Some bland bits, some inspired comedy (Conan the Librarian and 'supplies' are gold, Jerry! Gold!) in a super cheesy sauce. Weird Al is still my hero though.

Silly and stupid slapstick humour make up this Weird Al spoof. It's packed with absurd acting that honestly adds to the film. If you like a totally silly film that loves the things it makes fun of this is fantastic. If you don't then you're going to want to avoid it for sure (also you suck).

Not the laugh a minute riot I was hoping for - which might've been the case had it gone full blown parody - but still a harmless, enjoyable romp with a handful of laugh out loud moments. [FLIPPING EAGERLY THROUGH THE YELLOW PAGES] Now let's see: spatula, spatula,...

(Viewed on 09/14) Yankovic's humour works best in small doses (i.e. music clips), so it's not surprising that he was unable to make the transition to film. The concept is merely an excuse for him to hang lame farcical skits onto a skeletal scenario that's poorly developed. The impression given is that neither Yankovic or Levey could decide if they wanted to make a sketch comedy or a plot driven one, so they split the difference and ended up UHF, which is neither here nor there. Disappointing.

A fun film that loses its way in the second half. The plot is nothing to write home about ("We have to raise ____ amount of money by ____, or else ____!"), but the madness of Weird Al and some hilarious pop culture riffs keep it afloat. The plot should be an afterthought though and it takes over the movie in the latter half, as the parodies fall by the wayside. I don't think there's a single spoof in the last half hour of the movie, and when that's the film's driving force, that's a problem.

When compared to legendary spoof movies like the Naked Gun trilogy, Airplane, or the plethora of Mel Brooks films UHF simply cannot compete. However this movie had a charm that was so endearing you couldn't help but like it. UHF inserts its parodies seamlessly, instead of being a jumbled mess of sketches . In short this movie is exactly like a Weird Al song. Over the top absurdity mixed with rare bits of intelligence. Not the best this genre has to offer but far from the worst.

I don't mind that the plot was inconsequential and just provided an avenue for the sketches. What I do mind is that the sketches just weren't funny at all.

A regrettably hit-and-miss comedy from "Weird Al" Yankovic. The plot holding the film together simply acts as glue for the minute-long skits concerning television and advertising - all of which are fantastic. Outside of this the gags are less secure but there's still some very funny (and very silly, groan-worthy) stuff in there. Especially enjoyable as it embraces how weird all of the characters are - it revels in being as stupid as possible. It DARES to be stupid (I'm sorry I just had to).

UHF is very much a product of it's time but it still holds up relatively well if you have some knowledge of the era when this was made. Yankovic is funny in this movie but it's the over the top antics of Michael Richards that really steal the show in this goofy comedy. People up on their 80's history will recognize a lot of faces in this movie but they don't really matter because it's fun with or without any kind of star power. UHF is just goofy fun and it doesn't need to be anything else.

While my respect for Weird Al goes far beyond my appreciation for his work, that doesn't make this movie great. It was an amusing sketch compilation with a decent enough plot to mash it all together, but not worth going out of your way to find.

I liked this better the second time I saw it. I think the few disappointing parts of the overarching narrative - notably, the romance plot - distracted me from the way everything else ties together so strongly. It's funny, not just as individual jokes (although, *yes*), but in a way that builds and builds and builds on itself up to the climax, which involves like five Chekhov's Guns of Comedy going off in a row. Some of the jokes aged badly, but if you can engage with the 80s, seek it out.

From a narrative and film craft standpoint it's unapologetically dorky in a refreshing and healthy way not seen, to my knowledge, before or since. Even though the parodies cease to be funny when they're too specific (never seen that one Dire Straits video? Hoo boy), and even though Yankovic and Levey crib from the Zucker school a bit heavily, Richards and McCarthy are fantastic, and the film left me pining for the Sid and Marty Krofft days of DIY television I never experienced.
