The spaceship AAB-Gamma is dispatched from FAFC headquarters in Japan to make a landing on the planet Mars and investigate reports of UFOs in the area. As they near the red planet, they encounter a mysterious UFO that coats the ship's hull with unusual spores. Taking one of the specimens back to earth, it soon develops and grows into a giant chicken-lizard-alien monster that tramples Japan. (imdb)

Some great images and a cool vibe, but it just moves a tempo too slowly.

I had a blast with this one, despite the low score. The music was great, the monster was hilarious and the groovy 60s design was wonderful. I also love that it takes mere minutes to get to the moon! But damn that Lisa was an annoying cunt!

The giant space monster doesn't even show up until halfway through the movie, but even before, it's pretty fun following the adventures of Captain Sano, Signal Officer Miyamoto, and Lisa. Then Guilala hatches and gets to shine like only a man in a rubber suit trashing a tiny city can. The fact that the final resolution is 'we're just going to launch it into space so it's someone else's problem' is maybe one of my favorite kaiju movie solutions.

A charming, imaginative, and goofy sci-fi picture with a unique monster and a very groovy 60's vibe.

I wish i ran into this on TV at the tender age of 8 or 9 on Jordan Movie Channel (RIP in Pieces) and just marvelled at its silliness. How ever way it would've been pan-and-scanned would've been hilarious. I'm 25 now and while I'm marvelling at its silliness, that pre-teen joy in discovering a movie like this is non-existent.

Exhibits an incredibly well-developed sense of self. The soundtrack is probably its best quality.

It's pretty fun, but there are a lot of scenes where nothing entertaining or interesting happens.

This is a pretty dopey movie about going to Mars (which they never do), finding out about the UFO problem (which they never do) and the inspiration for putting exaggerated spring bobbed spheres on aliens. That said, once your expectations are properly calibrated, this can be categorized along with Green Slime in 60's space fun. Their outer space exploits are enjoyably kitsch; however it takes WAY too long to get to Guilala but when you do there is a gluttony of "rubber monster smashes Tokyo."

The kaiju is hilarious, but this one takes way too long to get started. And why did the astronauts let a young Ra's Al Ghul send them to Mars?

Starts off as a scifi flick and ends up as a Godzilla clone with miniature FX, international cast, unintentional humor, lounge music.. These monster films are not really my thing but I guess there are a lot worse out there. It's not good OR bad enough to be truly entertaining but should appeal to fans of the genre.

In which a 50 foot tall nuclear chicken monster from outer space terrorizes the Japanese countryside while still finding time to teach a group of doofus astronauts some important life lessons. The first half is fun but overly trivial and slow-going, but oh man, when Guilala is born ("space monster Guilala", that is, as a respectful authority figure helpfully clarifies at one point) this becomes a spazzy pleasure.

Has a goofy old-school charm that's hard to duplicate.
