Along with Invention and Baron, this perfectly showcases Zeman's utterly unique, imaginative and eccentric hyperstylised collage form to full effect, and it essentially splits the difference between them, featuring a more linear narrative punctuated by moments of comic surrealism. It doesn't quite sustain the momentum of its opening act, and it is more consolidation than reinvention, but it isn't dogged by the pacing problems of A Jester's Tale and On the Comet.
