Uma (1941) was the first movie Akira Kurosawa got to supervise as a director, as opposed to just being a assistant director. Uncredited, though, as he only did a few scenes and wrapped up the production for his mentor Kajirô Yamamoto. Horsea is a nice film, where, yes, a horse, serves as the circle of a poor family's life through the seasons. Does take its time and pacing isn't always beneficial to the experience as a whole, but I loved some of general life situations this family goes through.

Some excellent cinematography and decent family scenes, but they could have easily cut 20 minutes to make a better paced film. A curiosity because of the Kurosawa connection.
