The Elliot Short's are awesome.

My first, and I'll make sure it's not the last, encounter with claymation of Adam Eliot. And it's the first short film he has done. It's interesting, melancholic portrait of eccentric uncle. It shows how features of character, that might look stupid or funny makes a human being distinguishable and yet so familiar. The only problem was the sound quality and accent - it's really hard to understand the narrator.

It works, and Adam Elliot felt that it works and in later works he builds on and expands this sort of material, not just in the style of animation but also the basic premise and style of storytelling. If you've watched this, and Mary and Max, and Harvie Krumpet, it will actually be getting pretty tired.

The first of many darkly personal little masterpieces from the claymation master Adam Elliot, this a comfortably narrated story of a family member which resonates with a familiarity due to Elliot's dressing of characters like this with quirky tales expressing their idiosyncrasies (this usually tied to a character's mental instability, depression, or alcoholism). This all works because of the grounded realism this short sets itself, though the ending seems a tad too dramatic.
