Uncorked

This is a decent study of character and culture. The film is not amazing, but tells its story well, shows the struggles of its characters well, and is a good introduction to the world of wine.

Better then I expected

Not a film that will light the world on fire, but it's a well made, character-driven film that is going to be very relatable for a lot of us. The father/son dynamic feels real and brings the necessary emotions to proceedings. There is a lot about wine in this too for those wine lovers out there.

I love the juxtaposition of hip-hop and wine culture, more so than I expected to. This movie is a prime example of why representation matters; we've seen this concept dozens of times, but in the context of southern black culture, it tells a whole new kind of story. Add to that the deep belly-laughs of good comedy, and a really investment-worthy leading man. The French hip-hop when they go to France was a great touch. The drama can be hit-and-miss, but at its peak, it's great. This was a treat.

Excellent film, Vance and Athie are likeable leads and their rocky father son dynamic is the heart and soul of a film that perfectly blends different cultures together. Amazing writing, this film taught me a lot about wine and a lot about a spirit that cannot be broken. Athie is the driven lead in Elijah, who wants something different then take over the family BBQ joint. It's the world Elijah dreams for that he wishes he could grab and the balance of both worlds that becomes hard. A great film.
