To be honest I don't remember anything other than Erika Eleniak jumping out of a cake... but I think that's where the movie fogged up for me when I watched it many years ago. Much later I've read that it apparently features Gary Busey, Tommy Lee Jones, Steven Seagal and supposedly even some kind of plot...

Steven Seagal was untouchable back in the late 80's and early 90's white karate man craze. In middle school playgrounds across the U.S. little suburban white kids would get into shoving matches over who was better Seagal or Van Damme. Under Siege is Seagal's magnum opus. In it he does what he does best and that is play 2 dimensional pseudo-military action heroes. What stops this movie from being terrible is 1) Erika Eleniak's breasts 2)Tommy Lee Jones 3)Coked up over the top Gary Busey.

Seagal cooks up a dish of world peace, with a side of fried TLJ in this 90's action thriller! Putting his 'knife' skills to good use, Seagal finds himself 'dining alone' once a nuclear-armed US warship is pirated by a conglomerate of international mercenaries acting under maître d' Gary Busey. Seagal just won't learn his 'Mise en place' & stamps his Free-Range American boot down with moves not on any menu I've seen! Highlights: A 'tarted' up Busey rocking out in Japanese schoolgirl 'dressing'!

So this is Steven Seagal's best movie... which doesn't make it a good film, just a pretty average one. That doesn't mean it's not fun; there's entertainment to be found here if you don't take it too seriously. And yes, some of the scenes are silly, some of the acting is cringe-worthy and the plot is just a rehash so many action flicks you've seen before. Enjoy!

Surprisingly, Gary Busey hamming it up in drag isn't the most ridiculous part of this - that honor goes to Seagal's acting, more specifically that we were meant to believe it. The plot is a rehash of Die Hard on a battleship, where it becomes obvious that you have a problem when the villains and government brass are more interesting than your hero. By the end I got the distinct impression that Steven Seagal is the smuggest man alive.

Oh the 90s. This could be half passable diehardy trash if Seagal wasn't absolutely terrible as a lead. His invariably smug face, weirdly tired stuntwork and awkward line delivery didn't do any favors to the lame cliche-ridden script. Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones have a somewhat amusing competition in trying to overact each other but mostly it's just below bar, even with thick irony/nostalgia glasses.

Segal may be a bad actor, unimpressive martial artist, and an infamously pompous dickhead, but there was a good ten years where he found himself cast, against all odds, some actually awesome action movies. Sure, this is cheesy and ridiculous, but it's as fun as they come.

This has to be Seagal's best film, right? I say that having only seen around 3 of them, but I imagine his other films suffer from not having Busey and TLJ in them, and from featuring Segal. His smug doucheface in the film's closing moments is so absurdly off-putting that it seems like a Trumpian parody, and I have to imagine he improvised most of his lines, as they're consistently flat and momentum-killing compared to everyone else's. First half was fun. The TLJ fight was astoundingly bad.

One of the many "broken man against the world" action movies to come out in the wake of Die Hard, this one puts the action on a boat and replaces Bruce Willis with Steven Seagal. It's about as dumb as that sounds, but it's also a ton of fun to watch with friends, as Seagal's trademark combination of cornball acting and over-the-top kills prove an endless source of comedy. Eleniak is awfully miscast -- it's painful to watch her -- but Tommy Lee Jones dials up the camp. A good bad movie.

Quite a decent little thriller but far from riveting. Andrew Davis's direction is solid, Steven Seagal shoots some good lines and kicks butt in style (from aikido ass-kicking to brutal fatalities) and the premise provides for the needed intensity. I did feel though that "Under Siege" needed a bigger climax to give it a little extra edge. As it stands, there's nothing too bad about it, but nothing too good either.

Maltin's guide really hit the nail on the head with its capsule review: "Jones and Busey are better villains than [this] film deserves". I also like Erika Eleniak's performance as a little girl who's grown tits, but Seagal is such a mook. Just as you just gotta root for Harrison Ford, the exact opposite effect is in play *here*; how could anyone cheer on Seagal? About two-thirds of the way through the film, Jones is made to start acting crazy arbitrarily so the audience doesn't take his side

Under Siege for the second time collaborates both star Steven Seagal and Director Andrew Davis. This is a good all round action film and is alongside 'Above The Law' as Seagal's best. The cast is decent, Tommy Lee Jones adds star quality and Gary Busey is comic relief. This film was both the peak and the beginning of the end for Seagal. The standard of his films dropped dramatically following this. The action and set pieces are strong, simple plot, weak script. But all in all good 90's action.

Seagal's commercial breakthrough was an early Die Hard clone that played by the rules to satisfy the basic expectations of action fans without ever exceeding them. It was an effective vehicle for Seagal whose monotone line delivery resembled a lobotomized Brando at the best of times but nonetheless possessed a certain laconic charm. Its this understated 'cool' that reaped dividends in his prime, and Under Siege is a respectably mounted action thriller that plays to his limited strengths.
