Under the Red Robe

Despite some ridiculous elements (Raymond Massey's make-up, Romney Brent's deft finger-work), it's kind of entertaining, if static.

Started out strong with Conrad Veidt as a sleazy sword waving gambler, but the whole story got lost in love which one could not feel when he met the pretty Annabella. Apart from the romance ruining the excitement, it was also not a screen match. Only minor good moments followed and the whole thing became a disappointing finish to the final film the great Victor Sjöström ever directed.
